What’s up Wednesday - Hero Spotlight on Quentin

Pip Pip old bean!

Hello again my favourite internet people! I’m super excited to present our very first ‘Hero Spotlight’, where we focus on a specific Hero in the Reichbusters game and show off some of their cards, highlight their abilities and talk about their impact and presence on the table top. First up to the plate? It has to be the quintessential gentlemen, Quentin!

Who am I? Why, I’m your worst nightmare chum!
Who am I? Why, I’m your worst nightmare chum!

As suggested by his ID card, Quentin is useful in any given situation, largely thanks to his signature ability, Stealthy, which allows him to re-roll one noise dice during a test, as long as he isn’t making an attack. This makes Quentin exceptionally good at opening doors, gathering items and moving quickly through the enemy base. Combined with his bow and his combat knife, both of which have 0 noise, Quentin is excellent at clearing up messes made by louder members of the Reichbusters, or conversely simply not making the noise in the first place by going first himself.

Some wonderful toys for our boy to play with.
Some wonderful toys for our boy to play with.

The Precise keyword appears on both of his weapons, making Quentin extremely efficient due to his blanks counting as 1’s on his attack tests. This reliability makes him perfect for quickly removing smaller threats, but with these weapons only having 2 attack dice each, Quentin may sometimes struggle to remove a bigger threat. Thankfully, that’s where his action cards come in.

Let’s go gentlemen!
Let’s go gentlemen!

Quentin’s two feats, Swift as an Arrow and Rain of Death, are both situationally powerful, with Rain of Death losing effectiveness when there’s less than three targets, and Swift as an Arrow being left out in the cold when there isn’t a specific target for the card. When used to their full potential however, they can be used to clear a room quickly and quietly (thanks to Lethal allowing Quentin to re-roll his blanks), or assassinate a troublesome unit (due to Accurate ignoring targeting restrictions), despite the best efforts of anyone between Quentin and his prey.

Smashing!
Smashing!

Quentin is one of the quicker Heroes, having a good mix of melee and ranged cards, combined with strong Instant actions, which can be played in reaction to specific triggers in anyone’s turn, including the enemies.

This versatility means Quentin can push ahead, cover the rear, collect equipment, deliver dossiers, and anything in between, all the while killing any enemy that crosses his path. With only five cards in his deck that cause noise, Quentin can feel free to use action after action to ensure success for the Reichbuster team.

Jolly good show gents!
Jolly good show gents!

So that’s it from me and our mighty Englishman today, but on last thing on the way out the door – Don’t forget to complete the pledge manager if you haven’t already, as this lets us know how much stuff you want and where to send it. Also, be aware you can add more stuff whilst you’re there, so if you fancy taking Sgt Sally home to meet the parents, this is where you’ll do it.

Speaking of Sarge, Josh has more to say on him next week, so stay tuned then!

Good show chaps!

Stuart

PS. If anyone wants to see the game up close, we will be at Festival International des Jeux in Cannes, booth 08.01!

Bip bip, vieille branche !
Bip bip, vieille branche !

I have nothing against the pipe in artwork and cards but it does look slighly off in the mini. Not a big deal for me but if there was a poll I would vote against it :p

    2. Dave Mack on

...love the look, love the pipe! Quentin bears a striking resemblance to Frederick" Boy" Browning, "father of the British Airbourne forces". Being an old geezer Quentin reminds of the British Airbourne troops in the 1977 movie "A Bridge Too Far"...

+1 on losing the pipe in the mini and fixing all artwork so it is coherent with ID card

      @Crazybyzantine

There will be keywords when appropriate in order to save significant amount of space on the cards, but the plan is that we will be including reference cards to have by the game board, as well as a full glossary of them all in the back of the rulebook. Keywords will be bold in the final versions of the cards too, so it'll be easier to note when you're after a keyword.

    5. CAUCHY Pascal on

Personnaly, do not care too much about the pipe, but if the mini in the box is as good sculpted as this one on the picture, it will delighting to paint...

Sorry to be anal, but if he's a British badge on beret needs to sit over left eye on all creative ;)

I add my voice to those who like the pipe in the art, but wouldn't be sad to see it gone from the miniatura. About the drawbacks to stealth while having a pipe in the mouth during a commando mission, maybe the pipe it is empty, and Quentin is used to biting it as a way to improve his focus, or whatever.

    8. Mr. E52s on

      Regarding the pipe...

      Maybe he doesn't inhale.

    9. Crazybyzantine on

Somewhat tangent...are the special abilities like "Precise" just going to be the keyword names, or will the FX also be printed? If just keywords (like how HeroClix and many skirmish games do it), that's going to be too much to remember for me as I expect this game may end up with 25+ keywords. Prefer keyword with definition printed like "PRECISE: on Attacks, blanks count as 1's." Please consider for us capacity-challenged :)

Back on topic, looking forward to seeing the rest of the character bios. Abilities look very thematic, and looking forward to seeing the pros/cons of each commando. The 2d art captures the character (I'm actually ok with the pipe), but agree the 3d sculpt needs some tuning on the beard and pipe.

I agree with the general consensus that the pipe should go. It looks forced, it is too big, and it is completely nonsensical. The mini looks like a total SAS bad-ass, until you get to the pipe, and then it's all, 'Who dares, smokes.'

nice update... pipe on the mini loos a bit off.. maybe u should cast it separately and we can attach it after. or have it dropped on the floor he is in pitch battle right/ but over all looking good.

    12. Zoltán Déry on

I agree with @ David Carlton.

Please fix the mini. I think that the box art has it correct as well as the dashboard.

As a general rule in life, always listen to the Paratrooper.

    13. Mike A. on

Great job w/ the hero spotlight. I look forward to reading them all.

    14. David Carlton on

As a fellow paratrooper, please check the beret has the crest or flash over the left eye with the fold going towards the right side. Looks like the dashboard is correct but the cards and mini are reversed. Seems silly but this makes my eye twitch when it's wrong. ;)

My vote is to nix the pipe period.

    17. Andrea on

The pipe and the mustaches doesn't translate well on the miniature...
Please remove the pipe or adjust it, thanks!

    18. Josh Chambers Collaborator on

@Run to the Hills, the pipe seems to be a polarising issue, we've had so many comments on how much character it adds!

    19. Josh Chambers Collaborator on

Hey Guiz, the final version will totally have keywords in bold, these are just development versions and we often change the text and stats.

    20. Run to the Hills on

Pipe just doesn’t translate well from the art to the miniature.

    21. Run to the Hills on

      Great update.

Lose the pipe on the figure though. Doesn’t look like a pipe, and who smokes while trying to be stealthy?

    22. Guiz on

Thanks for this interesting update ! Just one thing, and I don't know if it's a typo or not, but do not forget to highlight keywords on action cards ! (like accurate and lethal in this example ! )

    23. Mark-Ders on

      Very cool update.

    24. Frank Calcagno on

Quentin, allow me to be frank...I also approve.

I just hope the guards don't smell the pipe before they hear him! (Thanks for the update!)

As a fellow Quentin, I approve of this update.
