The concert will introduce a traditional ethical instrument from Mongolia tribe, Morin Khuur, the Mongolian term for Horse Fiddle. A film based on the legend of the birth of Horse Fiddle will be played during the concert.
Sun is setting, old Suhe sits on the cliff side of prairie's far edge, his feeling is myriad, his heart is waving, recalls the solemn and stirring scene that happened here, he pulls the strings of horse fiddle, the melodious and resonant sound across the prairie, break the sky, the floating clouds stops and listens...
Suhe's loyalty friend, the white horse, and his first love Sarina had all left him, he lives for those who had gone away. That snowstorm, that heartbreaking wedding, those white lilium flowers turned to red, that horse fiddle formed with white horse's spirit....... Suhe brings deep and fervent feelings, plays an ode to love!
In addition to horse fiddles, the concert also blends pop songs, symphony orchestra, Mongolian long tone singing, Shaman drums and much more. We will create a 4D experience for the audience and take you to the wonderful prairie.
My name is Susan. Two years ago, I went to the north of China to look for the grassland in my dream, where lays a mysterious land, clouds floating in the clear sky, vigorous grass dancing on endless earth.
However, what struck me more was that I met an ancient musical instrument, morin khuur, Mongolian language for horse fiddle. It has only two strings, with a spirited horse head. It has accompanied countless generations people lives here and tells their feelings, struggles and hopes. It sounds euphemistic and magnificent, sometimes like a violin, sometimes like a cello.
Some Mongol musicians play this instrument that has thousands of years of history. Listen to the passionate music, I feel heated. To know morin khuur, then one must listen the touching legend behind it, in a snowstorm, a boy named Suhe saved a white pony with his life, after Suhe grew up with the white horse, the white horse sacrificed his life to saved Suhe in a battle against wolves. Agony Suhe missed his faithful friend, the white horse, who returned to Suhe's dream, and told Suhe, to make a fiddle with his body, uses his bones as the body, uses his bristle tail as strings, he would sing for Suhe and stay by his side as morin khuur. For an instant, I saw vivid spirits in morin khuur, not of spirits of men and horses, but all spirits live from sky to earth…. In that moment, I determined to produce a concert that uses morin khuur as main actor, and perform it in New York City, the holy land of musical world! Have the world hear its voice, feel its warmth of love and strength of life. Morin khuur is one of the world's intangible cultural heritage, I hope it can penetrate through the vast grassland, amaze the world!
Risks and challenges
Currently, I have the music concert’s theme script, hired scriptwriters and composers from Broadway New York and Inner Mongolia, and Horse Fiddle musicians into creative activities. An immersive concert features horse fiddle with the modern symphony and film will be staged in New York in August 2019. I have self-raised more than 90% the project’s creative funds, and now I need to raise funds to fill in the gap.
I want to create something that has never been seen before, a special immersive concert experience that fusions western and eastern art styles together. I hope I could raise enough funds to give me the kickstart of my project. If I can't get enough pledges, I will talk to more investors and create the concert.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
