... a few products with the ability to stream games ...– the NVIDIA Shield ... PlayStation 4 along with a Vita. However, the weakness of all of these is latency, an issue that the creators of the GameBuddy streamer promise to address. ... this could easily rival, and perhaps surpass, any of the other streaming devices on the market.
…. GameBuddy uses an innovative NoLAG technology perfect for any game, no matter how demanding…. There’s no place where you can’t take the gaming experience.
.... Sure, Nvidia SHIELD’s GameStream function is pretty cool, if you only like playing Steam games. GameBuddy looks to blow it out of the water, by letting you play any game, console, PC or mobile, on any screen, at anytime.
.... And if the claim of no lag is true – that is huge. Crowdfunding on Kickstarter now the Portand, Maine based team of Ken Filliter and Derick Hui at iPIXEL Technology have really created a sleek, practical device that every gamer will want. Love it.

.... We've seen quite a few products with the ability to stream games from one screen to another on a local network ... However, the weakness of all of these is latency ... GameBuddy promises PC game streaming with no discernable lag
Why did we create GameBuddy?
We all love playing video games on smartphones and PCs. But can we play our favorite smartphone or PC games on a big screen while sitting comfortably on the couch? We also love playing console games on our XBox or Playstation - but face annoying interruptions when other family members want to watch TV. Can we pause and move to another room to continue playing the console game?
It wasn’t possible until we created GameBuddy. GameBuddy is an innovative HD video transmitter and receiver. It can stream any game to any screen anywhere with full HD quality and no detectable delay. It can also stream HD video across different platforms including Windows, Android and iOS devices. Powered by our innovative NoLAG technology, GameBuddy means you won’t feel any lag even when playing the most demanding first-person-shooting games.
In order to make sure every home can use our technology, we have tested our product to work with Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Homeplug and MOCA. As long as you have Wi-Fi or Ethernet network coverage, you are ready to go.
Why do you need a GameBuddy?
You can use GameBuddy to do any of the following.
1. Stream your PC or smartphone games to the big screen TV
2. Stream your console or smartphone games to a laptop or desktop PC
3. Stream your set-top box or DVR video to a tablet, PC or another TV
4. Stream your video from your PC hard-disk or cloud to a TV, tablet or smartphone
What makes GameBuddy unique?
NoLAG Video Transmission
GameBuddy incorporates our innovative NoLAG video transmission technology, capable of transferring full HD video with undetectable delay. While many competing technologies offer 200ms to 300ms delays, NoLAG HD video transmission only has a delay between 30ms to 60ms. (In fact, around 30ms most of the time. Worst case is still below 60ms.) Almost one tenth of our competitors. This undetectable delay enables gaming on another screen of your choice without affecting your experience. There is no other solution in the market capable of transferring full HD video with approximately 30ms delay over existing Wi-Fi or Ethernet network. We achieved it.
No Compatibility Issue
GameBuddy lets you send and receive games and videos at the push of a button. You don’t have to worry about compatibility with your iPhone, Android phone or PC.
No Connectivity Concern
You don’t have to worry about not getting signals as long as you have network coverage. We have tested compatibility with many popular Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Homeplug and MOCA solutions.
Software Transmitters and Receivers
Even better, we provide software for your PC, Tablet and Smartphone. Our app turns your devices into transmitters or receivers - giving you maximum flexibility to stream games and videos from one place to another. A cross platform experience.
Free Software that Comes Along with GameBuddy
- WIN-EN1: A PC Screen Mirror encoder software to turn your PC into a transmitter. Great for video streaming. In this case, no GameBuddy is needed to connect to the PC, but end-to-end delay may increase to 100ms.
- WIN-DE1: A PC decoder software to turn your PC into a receiver. Great for all applications using a PC as a remote display: Console/Smartphone-to-PC gaming, video streaming from cable TV or set-top box to PC. In this case, no GameBuddy is needed to connect to the PC. End-to-end delay around 60ms. To comply with HDCP requirements, HDCP encrypted content will not be played on the PC unless users convert composite video and analog stereo signal to HDMI using an external converter (RCA to HDMI).
- AND-DE1: An Android APP to turn an Android tablet/smartphone into a receiver and remote controller of a PC. Great for cable TV or set-top box to tablet video streaming. In this case, no GameBuddy is needed to connect to the tablet/smartphone. User can also use the tablet to remotely control a PC. iOS APP is in our road map. To comply with HDCP requirements, HDCP encrypted content will not be played on the tablet/smartphone unless users convert composite video and analog stereo signal to HDMI using an external converter (RCA to HDMI).
- PC Game to Big Screen TV
- Console Game to PC
GameBuddy lets you play your console game on your PC or even lying in bed. You don’t have to worry when somebody wants to use the living room TV anymore. You just pause your game and continue playing on another device in another room.
The winning moment can be captured on a PC and sent to friends for sharing the fun.
- Smartphone Game to TV with Game Controller
GameBuddy gives you the pleasure of playing your smartphone games on a big screen TV or using a game controller to control your smartphone.
The built-in MHL converter in GameBuddy saves you the hassle of connecting an external MHL to HDMI converter for Android devices.
- PC to TV or projector
iPixel’s PC Screen Mirror encoder software runs on almost any x86 PC. The PC can also be controlled remotely by smartphones and tablets running our Android decoder App.
This remote control capability allows a user to play video program from an Internet-connected PC in the bedroom while the user is in the living room in front of a big screen TV.
- Cable TV, set-top box and blu-ray player to PC, tablet / smartphone or TV in another room.
GameBuddy can be deployed in almost any home and office environment. As long as you have a network connection, we have a solution for you. GameBuddy provides a true “multi-room” support. iPixel Technology supports the widest range of connectivity options.
GameBuddy also supports a single sender and multiple receivers. Users can also record their videos to a PC. As always, users are reminded not to infringe any copyright when recording video.
Your Battery Charger and Power Bank
GameBuddy is designed to operate using smartphone batteries. We have designed the device to support multiple battery sizes using small adapters. By doing so, GameBuddy also works as a battery charger for many devices. We plan to initially support popular Samsung models like the Galaxy S3, S4, Note II and III. We will later support popular models from Sony and LG.
The GameBuddy USB port can be used to charge smartphones. The small 5 inch size makes GameBuddy a portable companion for today’s smartphones.

Below Youtube link shows a first person shooting game running on GameBuddy. This is provided by our beta customer. It shows that GameBuddy can handle the most delay-sensitive games.
Who are we?GameBuddy is developed by iPixel (an abbreviation for iPixel Technology LLC). iPixel is focused on HD video transmission over wireless and wired networks with unmatched low latency (NoLAG) and flexible network topology.
Why NoLAG can achieve a much shorter delay?
Traditional video codecs, like h.264, are designed for offline compression. When applied to wireless HD video transmission, traditional codecs allocate a large frame buffer to adapt to changing network bandwidth, thus increasing latency significantly. Our NoLAG technology uses a new video codec designed from the ground up for low latency video transmission over a network. NoLAG adapts to rapidly changing conditions in the network while preserving very low latency. If the network bandwidth suddenly drops, NoLAG technology instantly adjusts the video bitrate to ensure no lag, no frame drop and no artifacts. When the bandwidth returns to normal level, the video bitrate resumes visual lossless quality.
The following video clip demonstrates the undetectable delay of GameBuddy. The setup in the video is as follow.
- Connect the PC HDMI output to an HDMI splitter.
- Connect one splitter output port to the HDMI-in of the left monitor.
- Connect the other output port to a GameBuddy, which is configured as a transmitter.
- Connect another GameBuddy which is configured as a receiver to the HDMI-in of the right monitor.
By comparing the two screens, we can determine the time lag of the HD Video transmission over Wi-Fi between two GameBuddy devices.

How does GameBuddy work?
A GameBuddy box can be configured as either a wireless High Definition transmitter or receiver. When used as a transmitter, the GameBuddy box can be connected to any video source such as a cable TV box, a Set-Top-Box, a Blu-ray player, a game console, a PC, tablet, or smartphone, etc. When configured as a receiver, GameBuddy can be connected with any video display, such as a High Definition TV, a PC monitor or video projector. We also provide encoder and decoder Apps. If the video source is a PC, you can use the encoder App to replace the transmitter box. If the video display is a PC, smartphone or tablet, you can use the decoder App to replace the receiver box.
The GameBuddy hardware/software transmitter encodes the raw HD video with our proprietary NoLAG Video Technology. The encoded video can then be transmitted to a hardware/software receiver over WI-FI, Ethernet, power plug or MoCA. The receiver will decode the encoded HD video and output the video. The unique NoLAG technology allows the user to stream HD video to a large screen display with no noticeable lag.
By providing a complete solution of wireless HD video encoding and decoding including both the necessary hardware and software, GameBuddy provides maximum flexibility to meet a wide variety of usage scenarios, as shown below.

How to setup?
- A pair of GameBuddy
Setup is mostly plug and play. You just switch on both GameBuddy devices, press a button to set one GameBuddy as transmitter and the devices will automatically connect with one another.
- Connect GameBuddy to Home Router
If you want to connect GameBuddy devices to your home network (any of Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Homeplug, MOCA), you can simply connect to each GameBuddy setup page and fill in the home network connection information such as SSID, username and password. The GameBuddy devices will automatically connect with each other.
GameBuddy's proprietary NoLAG transmission is a proven technology. The next step for GameBuddy is adapting the current NoLAG Transceiver design to a smaller case and adding in power bank support circuitry. The smaller PCB board is currently in the test and debug state. The only changes are using smaller form factor ICs and a new power supply circuit, both of which are low risk changes. We are quite confident we can meet the project timeline and GameBuddy development board status shown below.
Risks and challenges
GameBuddy is developed based on iPixel Technology LLC’s NoLAG technology. This technology has been proven and successfully deployed in our NoLAG Transceiver.
The risk with GameBuddy development is very low. Our challenge is on the manufacturing side as some components’ lead time are very long. We also need to closely monitor subcontractors during production to make sure the work quality meets our standard. Fortunately, these challenges are not new to us and our team members have much experience handling them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
