Roxy, the Muse
Roxy is the orphaned squirrel Randy rescued in summer of 2015. In the early spring of 2016, she became of age to be on her own. Feeling immensely attached and proud, Randy needed to find an outlet to share what he was feeling. Inspired by a great poem by Edgar Guest (1881-1959) "Miss Me, But Let Me Go" that he had read a year earlier, Randy wrote the following verse borrowing several excerpts from Guest's work as if Roxy were speaking to him.
He poured his heart out and it starts like this:
You were there to save my life
I will never forget that day
You've made me very happy
For thanks, I'll say it this way.
Now is the end of my up-bringing
And my destiny lies before me
Please do not weep of my absence
Why cry for a soul set free.
Miss Me a little-But Not Too Long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss Me-but Let Me Go.

Designed to help children develop their math, negotiation and social skills, created by Randy Hecht who rescued an orphaned squirrel named “Roxy”, who in turn inspired him to invent this all-American game both kids and adults will enjoy for years to come. A percentage of proceeds will be donated to local animal rescue and rehab centers.
It’s A Squirrel’s Life™
It’s a Squirrel’s Life™ is a tabletop game for 2-4 players, ages 8 and above, and plays between 30 – 60 minutes.
Take a live journey through the eyes of a tree squirrel. We have all seen these cute creatures in the wild and our backyards, yet few know much about them. Finally, for the first time a board game has been created to simulate the life of a typical tree squirrel from nest born, to adulthood, and ultimately parenthood. Play, forage or duel with your fellow squirrels. Once out of the nest and free, prepare to harvest fruits, nuts, nests and babies, and negotiate your way to be the first to win!
Full of humanizing and amusing nuances, both children and adults will enjoy many hours of fun and entertainment. With cleverly designed game rules, it also helps kids develop important social, math and negotiation skills that will benefit both their personal and professional lives for years to come.
The general objective of the game is to gather a certain number of food pieces (i.e. acorns, strawberries and pumpkins), as well as obtain five tail rings signifying squirrel life milestone achievements. The first squirrel/player to accomplish this wins.

Who We Are, and Where We Are
Randy Hecht, a former aerospace engineer and California-licensed professional civil engineer, used to dress up as the caped crusader and navigate Southern California traffic in his Batmobile to entertain kids (and adults), participate in local cities’ 4th July parades, and appear at numerous charity events, movie premiers and business openings. It’s A Squirrel’s Life™ is his first foray into game design, and he hopes to continue to build on it with your support.
Artist Dave Walston has been an illustrator since 1996, when he got his start with his then brother-in-law drawing Disney books. He has worked freelance on Disney, Cartoon Network, LeapFrog and Nickelodeon projects as well as many smaller licenses. In the last decade he has transitioned away from Children's books and games to corporate and caricature work.
Ophelia Zhu has an education in International Business (B. A.) in China and MBA in the US, and more than two decades of experience in marketing, sales and supply chain management of consumer products. Having worked for both a start-up and established businesses, she and the team have a vision, a strategy and know how to execute.
Our manufacturer has been in the board game business for more than 15 years, and includes some of the biggest names in the industry as its customers. We speak our manufacturer’s language, figuratively (we came from a manufacturing background) and literally (we read, write and speak Mandarin), and communicate with each other multiple times almost every day.
We have completed all the art work designs (board design, tri-lingual instruction manuals, color box) and prototypes (squirrel game pieces, fruit/food pieces, tail rings, player trays, packaging trays), and are ready to move towards production.
Why Support Us?
To pay homage to the orphaned squirrel “Roxy” Randy rescued that inspired him to develop this fun, educational and quintessentially American game, we will donate a percentage of our proceeds to local animal rescue and rehabilitation centers.
Our research shows that there currently is no tabletop game incorporating squirrel designed for the age group of 8 and up. As electronic gadgets threaten to increasingly limit our social encounters, it’s even more important for kids (and adults) to spend time playing and interacting with each other.
Looking back, we realize that even our MBA schools did not teach us on negotiation. We had to develop that skill by reading books, attending Karrass Institute and keeping practicing. There is no doubt that we live in a new economy, where our success demands innovation and entrepreneurship. Therefore, we specifically include a mechanism in our game where children can learn how to negotiate while playing this friendly and fun game, and we hope and believe that this learned skill will benefit both their professional and personal lives for years to come. Therefore, we feel our motto sums up the benefits of playing our game well:

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is that we have never been in the toy business. Ever. Randy Hecht has worked on building nuclear power plants and airplanes throughout his career, and even “Batman” is new to the world of board game design and crowdfunding. As we realize this is our first rodeo, we know what we know, and it’s what we don’t know we don’t know that may derail us.
Therefore, we spent time testing our game, fine tuning the rules, travelling to China to visit our factory to validate its capacity and capabilities, learning the rope of Kickstarter, and are proud to present our invention in front of the world. It’s has been an emotional and long journey, not too different from the journey a squirrel will take from infancy, to adulthood and ultimately parenthood.
