Who We Are
My name is Alan Yeung, co-founder of Fotobit. Instagram is an amazing and convenient tool for taking great photos with my phone and it allows me to capture countless memories of my kids and family. Yet as easy as it is to take photos, it becomes just as easy to forget them. I just don’t find myself cherishing digital photos as I do prints. I don’t take the time to look at them and enjoy them as I would a real photo. We may have thousands of digital photos buried in our devices, but when something is printed and framed, it becomes interwoven into everyday life.
I wanted to share the memories I was capturing on my walls, but I wanted a system that could change and grow over time alongside my kids. This is the idea that became Fotobit. Fotobit is a modular photo frame system that gives me the flexibility to display and change photos easily while also expanding to accommodate my family’s growing memories over time.
From Concept to Creation
Fotobit was conceptualized, designed and developed with the award winning product design team at CRISP^YHKG in Orange County, California, which includes Art Center College of Design alumni and consumer electronics industry veterans. After nearly 12 months and half a dozen rounds of prototyping, we landed at our final design, which we’ve put through its paces to ensure lasting quality. Fotobit frames have been tested for durability and each clip can withstand a weight load of over 30 pounds.
Funding: Why We Need Your Help
We are committed to the success of Fotobit and have already invested in a majority of the startup costs of Fotobit. As of today, we have already put in countless man hours to design, prototype and test Fotobit, and thousands of dollars towards molds and sample runs. We have reached the stage where we can make Fotobit a retail product for everyone to enjoy. With your help in reaching our $16,000 goal, we will be able to meet the minimum order quantity for our first production run and deliver the first round of Fotobit frames. We will also have stretch goals that include a white version of Fotobit if surpass our original goal and make it to $25,000.
Shipping and Delivery Time:
Fotobit will be shipped free of charge to backers in the US with tracking. To ensure timely delivery, once our goal has been met, we will begin ordering material and start the initial production run.
When We Get the Green Light
If we meet our initial goal of $16,000, we are aiming to ship final retail products as early as late May/early June 2014. After the successful close of our campaign and transfer of funds, we estimate it will take 2 working days to ramp up into production. The estimated timeline for producing Fotobit is 2 weeks, and we’ll need another 2 weeks to conduct our quality inspections. Add in some time for packing (1 week) and shipping (1-2 weeks for US backers), and that puts Fotobit in your hands somewhere between late May or early June. If for some reason we run into any snags, you’ll be the first to know.
Risks and challenges
There are very minimal risks and challenges since Fotobit has undergone extensive prototyping and testing, and we have proven manufacturability with an initial pilot run. We are confident in our design and ability to deliver, but need support in order to start mass production for Fotobit. Our funding goal with Kickstarter will go towards meeting a minimum production quantity. Our estimated goal delivery is May 2014 and we’ll be posting updates to keep all backers informed of our progress.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
