About

Soluna was a project I had thought of that is based off a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that I was running. I went to my good friend Jacob with this idea who had been working on a unique magic system for years. We combined forces using my world and his magic system to create Soluna. After creating this concept, we started bouncing ideas off each other. That's when we decided that we shouldn't be selfish and we should share this amazing new world with everyone!

This magic system revolves more around science and the freedom to use spells in innovative ways. This system doesn't actually have any spells. Instead, there are templates for ideas of how people can use their powers. No longer are Mages these frail, one shot wonders. In Soluna, Mages are known as Weavers. Weavers are beings of immense power and can manipulate the building blocks of the world. This strength can create devastating effects on their surroundings.

Soluna's class system is based more off of popular games, such as Skyrim, by allowing free-form classes. We are developing an archetype build that will give people an idea of what kind of characters they can build. But also, you will have the freedom to choose which abilities your character can use. The only limitation is finding a Trainer. Trainers are dependant on your Gamemaster, and the Gold and Experience your character has.

We are really excited to share our ideas with the world and hope to get you as excited about this project as we are.

The money we are asking for will be going towards the following expenses: Graphic Art, Website and Hosting, printer prices for the limited hard copies, and the Copyright costs for Soluna itself. Everyone who donates get a set of basic rules in order to play test and give us valuable feedback.

About the Creators

This is me. Trevor Krontz the Creative Director and Lead Writer of Soluna. I have always loved RPG's and I decided that maybe it should be time that I make my own.

This is Jacob Szczublewski(yes that's his real last name). My partner in crime. This is our Director of Magic and the creator of the unique magic system that makes Soluna so great.

Me and Jacob have been friend's for many years and have always shared a mutual love of tabletop games, especially the role-playing aspect. So it just so happens to line up on two projects that went together like peanut butter and jelly.

Our artist is Jennifer Utrup. She is a talented artist I have known for a very long time. Check her art out at http://kiranowselling.deviantart.com/.

This is a picture of her art to give you guys an example of the quality of art we will be putting into this.

Soluna

In the world of Soluna their are two truths. Everything dies and when something dies, it stays dead.

Soluna is a world all about balance, which is at the core of the game. Everything from good to evil is about balance. Most importantly though Magic is all about balance. A basic explanation of our magic system is that it works on positive, negative, and neutral magics. Every person in Soluna can use magic, so no longer does a character have to worry about having potions( those are still advised though) when they can use a spell that would have the same effect. The only limitations is the limit of your Power Pool. Positive magic drains this pool where as Negative magic recharges this pool. Neutral magic will drain or charge depending on the effect.

That is just a brief explanation of the magic system though. We are changing the combat system as well. We are making a usable grapple system and changing the rules for unarmed combat. Along with this I have finished a system for "called shots" which is being able to target limbs in combat. Because let's face it, in actual combat you aren't just going to swing away at something. You're going to aim at vulnerabilities and try to gain an advantage in combat.

Because of the era we are basing this off of, The end of The Industrial Era. The technology is going to be more of a part of our system. Now what I mean by the end of the Industrial Era is late Wild West and Victorian Era. So this means guns as well as your normal fantasy weapons and armor. These advancement don't mean that melee combat or more traditional fantasy items will be useless. We hope that people will be able to use our crafting system to actually make them better and more innovative.

The technology is steampunk type of items and equipment. This means grapple guns, trains, steamships, and many many more crazy items.

Theses are just some of the few things that we have put into our game in order to make it a unique and revolutionary system that we hope will make you guys, the backers excited about our project.

Risks and challenges

The main challenge we are able to predict at this point is finding the printer we will be using to make the hard copies and also to actually print and ship the books. Along with this, another potential issue are schedules for the group play we are offering as a reward. I have been able to finish the playtest rules and Jacob has finished the Magic system allowing us to come up with a working model of the game. We have been able to make great progress just in the couple months that we have been developing Soluna such as being able to finish the playtest rules. One other challenge is just ensuring that we are not infringing on any Copyrighted products held by any other party.
