A Festival of Fools, an independent non-profit theater company, is producing our 8th full-length play this summer, returning to the place from whence we came - the great outdoors!
A Game Without a Name, presented as part of the New York International Fringe Festival, is a completely free show. It will be performed at First Street Green Park on the Lower East Side in Manhattan.
Our company's mission has been to provide free and inexpensive theater for local communities, as well as to revive the genre of verse, breathing new life into it with modern language, daring adventure, and sword fighting. This latest play, which is chronologically the first in a trilogy of verse plays, tells the origin story of the Fool. We find him trapped inside the Primordial Zenith, faced with bumbling, swashbuckling clowns, a singing chorus, a mysterious mask, and a cosmic riddle he needs to solve in order to escape. There's lots of physical comedy, rhyming, original music and rubber chicken fights.
Our company, which is run by Tim Bungeroth and his wife Megan Finnegan, began in 2009 with a free outdoor show in Prospect Park, and we're thrilled to return to our roots with this new work. We're honored to present this play to the public for free, but unfortunately producing a free play is still an expensive proposition, which is why we're humbly seeking your support.
Here's where our $1,500 budget goes:
- Space rental (for auditions and some indoor rehearsals): $400
- Casting and crew notices on Backstage.com: $25
- Marketing (printing and sending press releases, post cards, etc.): $200
- Production image, original artwork by the amazing Mike Shea: $300
- Costumes and props: $275
- Printing programs: $75
- Equipment (boombox, etc.): $100
- Extras including batteries, umbrellas for the audience in case it rains, water for the team when rehearsing/performing outside, printing scripts, and the occasional pizza party for our hardworking actors who do it all for free: $125
All the show details are below, and you can find out more about our company and our past shows on our website: www.afestivaloffools.org.
