About The Project
Pembroke Circle is a micro-budget independent feature film that follows a young girl whose life is traumatically impacted by a disturbing instance of human trafficking that hits extremely close to home:
When Grace’s father takes a foreign maid into their conventional home, the life she’s accustomed to is shaken by a dark secret… and her own repressed past.
Although ‘Pembroke Circle’ is not a message film, it certainly calls attention to the subject and we want it to contribute as much as possible to human trafficking awareness. It’s a thriller-drama that will be accessible to a mature audience. It is being produced as a part of the University of Central Florida M.F.A. film program in Orlando, FL. The objective of the program is to direct a feature film with a budget of less than $50,000. We’re currently in pre-production with a close-to-final draft of the script. We’d love to have your support.
This is our second Kickstarter campaign to raise money to make the film. Our initial one was back in June and was successful. You may visit it here. Combined with the amount we raised last year, our current goal reflects the minimum that we need to go into production on June 12th, 2012. Any money we raise over our current goal will be saved for post-production expenses. It's an extremely important story that needs to be told. This film WON'T BE MADE without your help!
Ever since the passing of her mother, Grace has assumed the role of a surrogate parent in her home. At 16 years of age, she takes care of her younger brother, Matthew, and tends to her father, Leigh. Her only friend is Marcos, a good-hearted Hispanic boy who has been her best friend since Middle School. Grace never leaves the comfort of Pembroke Circle for anything. The only disturbance in her structured life are night terrors where she envisions a dark figure watching her sleep.
The clockwork that is her life is thrown off balance when Leigh decides they need help in house and hires a foreign maid, Mariela. Grace is threatened by her presence in the house and feels that something isn't quite right with her. Grace begins to notice changes in her father's behavior. He doesn't allow Mariela to leave the house or anybody to come over, especially Marcos.
Grace's motherly nature allows her to eventually warm up to Mariela as she becomes curious of what she is hiding. Signs of abuse, trauma and mental instability begin to show itself. When Leigh's increasingly hostile behavior and Mariela's deterioration become too disturbing to ignore, Leigh tells Grace that Mariela will no longer be working there. The next day, she is gone, without a trace. After Mariela's departure, Grace begins to find clues in the house that hint that something far more sinister was taking place.
Frame Of The Film
Borrowing from our friends at "Man-Child", (Congrats on the successful campaign by the way!), we are offering our backers a unique gift:
- Our final film is projected to be around 85 minutes which is about 122,400 frames (85 minutes x 60 seconds x 24 frames per second = 122,400)
- Using $50,000 as the anticipated cost of production, post-production and marketing/distribution for the film. $1 is equal to roughly 2.5 frames.
- Regardless of how much you pledge, you will receive a unique portion of the film. Upon completion, we will send you a clip that nobody else will have to reflect the portion of the film you made possible.
