About this project
Hello! My name is Karen Demsko and I'm a graphic/web designer from the Philly suburbs. I've always wanted to create a series of some kind, whether that be a webcomic, an animated series, or a TV show. Now, with an idea I firmly believe in and an amazing group of people on board, we would like to bring to you our first big project "The Company You Keep".
What is "The Company You Keep"?
“The Company You Keep” is planned to air as a Made-for-Web Sci-Fi comedy revolving around the world of a futuristic A.I. named Nyx, made by the mysterious corporation known as The Company, trying desperately to remain anonymous among humankind, as her release date isn't for another century. Aiding her in this task is her personal engineer 'Doc', Keith Reos the on call lawyer, and Mr. Suratrat the project manager for the group. Everything would be fine except for one thing. Nyx was designed for one purpose: Evil.
The show explores Nyx and her nature, as well as the people around her and the company that thought to make her in the first place. The comedy aspect of the series revolves around Nyx and her attempts to lead a normal, every day life amongst the humans she so eagerly wishes to destroy.
Is this an animated series or a live action series?
Though this does sound as if it should/could be an animated production, this will, in fact, be a live action series. We hope to use professional equipment and software along with our talented group of actors, video crew, and artists to produce a series that is just as much high quality as it is funny.
Where does the money go?
The money that is earned will be divided into various sections for the project:
Software Upgrades: We will need to upgrade the software we use for editing, color correction, special effects and CGI to obtain licenses if we are going to legally release our product - $2,000
Filming Equipment: Dollys, Jibs, Softbox, Boom Mic, as well as camera and equipment maintenance and upkeep. The largest portion of the investment goes towards making sure our equipment is up to date, professional grade, and in top notch working condition - $4,000
Props and Costumes: For an authentic experience, quality props and costumes will be required. This investment goes towards just that. Costumes and professional props will make a huge difference in the quality bar we will be able to hit - $250 -$1000
Overhead: Extra money is needed for funding because Kickstarter takes 5%, Amazon takes 3-5% on each transaction, and the costs of producing and sending out rewards could run up a substantial bill as well - $1,000.
What is your production time-line?
The production time-line is very tentative at this moment. The generally plot has been written, a complete character guide has been created, animation for the opening has begun, the logos have been created, and so on. A lot of the production, however, will be based upon whether we can afford to actually make it (aka - if we get proper funding).
If we do receive the funds we need, production will kick off almost immediately with script writing, opening animation, 3D animation, prop and costume creation, and then some all leading to Spring 2012 when we'll begin shooting, with a projected release date of June 2012.
Can you tell us more about the prizes?
Contrary to the video, we promise that not every prize will have a big Company logo on it. Each prize will be a specific design just for that prize. The button will have one design, the postcard print will have a totally different design, so on and so forth. Illustrations will include a digital copy of the piece (both the work file and the finished piece) and, if you donate $250 or higher and wish to have a hand colored illustration, the original piece will be mailed to the address provided and you will receive a digital scan of the finished piece. If you are one of the three to donate the maximum amount possible, the replica piece will be carefully wrapped and you will need to decide whether you would like to sign for it or not.
As for the prizes themselves, we believe that it would ruin the surprise if we were to tell you the designs for each of the prizes so we will be keeping that a secret. If there are any other questions, please feel free to send a message, I'll be happy to answer.
