We have a really exciting opportunity coming up; one that we weren’t expecting when we launched the campaign. It’s an opportunity to spread the word of Jesus Revolution further than we could have hoped, but it’s an opportunity that means having to put this campaign on hold.
While Kickstarter requires that a campaign be cancelled instead of paused, we’ll have to cancel the campaign before we get too much further. We will send you another update as soon as we have more to share! Thank you again for your support, and please hold tight for further word.

WE HAVE A PROBLEM
Why is there so much cynicism and resistance in regards to Christianity in this country? Why do people walk away from the faith when they go off to college? Why do we have so many Christians who are stressed out, filled with anxiety, and longing to be filled with the peace that they are supposed to have already? When did things become so numb?
Morals have largely gone down the drain. Many churches pick and choose which parts of the Bible to preach and believe and which parts to conveniently omit- or flat out deny. Personal fulfillment is seen as the highest possible good, but no one seems to attain it.
Our problem, of course, can’t be with Christ, so it must be with something we’ve invented. A happy-meal, convenient Christianity that we’ve made up to meet our own needs. It’s not real and we know it.
What we don’t know is that 40 years ago there was a generation that felt just like we do. A generation that was just as empty, confused, and lost.
BUT THEN SOMETHING CRAZY HAPPENED.
WE HAVE AN ANSWER
Amidst all of the turmoil and chaos of the 1960’s, a move of God swept across the country in a way that no one could have possibly imagined, planned, or predicted. Drugged-out hippies, rebellious nomads, and cynical beatniks started looking to Jesus as the fulfillment of all that their hearts longed for.
On the breeding grounds of revolt, there was one more revolution to come. From humble origins, the craze spread like wildfire across the entire U.S. in a miraculous fashion - a man literally carrying a wooden cross from LA to DC, students at Asbury college refusing to end a chapel service for seven days, over 150,000 people cheering in the Cotton Bowl for Johnny Cash and Billy Graham. These were the earmarks of something greater than superstition.
Time magazine called it the Jesus Revolution. Some called it a miracle, others an aberration. We just call it what it is.
If they could be saved then, we can be saved now. By exploring the movement that altered the course of our parents’ generation we can see what must be done again. There is a path for us too, and like it’s always been…
THE ANSWER IS JESUS
WE HAVE A PLAN
We’re making a documentary about real spiritual revolution. But this won’t be a boring infomercial. It will be a revolutionary adventure film, complete with big bonfires, live music, ocean baptisms, gospel choirs, and hopefully people coming to Christ on camera.
Part 1 of the journey will take our team across the country, interviewing ex-hippies, pastors, professors, musicians, baristas, and others about The Jesus Movement.
But Part 2 will take us up the California coast in a 60s-era Tour Bus, with “The Jesus Revolution” emblazoned on each broadside. We aren’t in this to tell people about a historical Jesus, we’re here to show them that He’s very much alive. We’ll be doing real evangelism. We’ll be praying for real revival.
And the invitation is simple: Come along for the ride.
We believe that the gospel should be free.
That’s why we’re raising our budget for this film on Kickstarter. We want to give this film away. We still want it to be theaters, we want it to be on Blu-ray and DVD and other traditional platforms, but our end goal is to make this film free online forever. After all, we’re here to make something more than a movie.
If it happened before, It can happen again.
"Oh! men and brethren, what would this heart feel if I could but believe that there were some among you who would go home and pray for a revival - men whose faith is large enough, and their love fiery enough to lead them from this moment to exercise unceasing intercessions that God would appear among us and do wondrous things here, as in the times of former generations." - C.H. Spurgeon

At this point, you're probably asking where the money is going. We've put this section together so that you can rest assured that your money will be stewarded, not simply used.
Travel: First and foremost, The Jesus People Movement of the 60s and 70s was a nationwide event. In order to best capture the stories in their places of origin, we will be flying a small team to key locations such as Costa Mesa (Calvary Chapel), San Francisco (Haight-Ashbury), Texas (Explo 72'), New Jersey (Maranatha Coffeehouse), Chicago (Jesus Is Lord), Atlanta (House of Judah), and Kentucky (Asbury Revival of 1970). Your donation is helping us cover more of these magnificent stories and arrive at the most accurate portrayal of God's movement.
Crew: The Jesus People Movement also had a very iconic aesthetic, as it pulled from the counterculture of the hippie culture, while still maintaining its evangelical roots. In order to properly capture the look, tone, and feel of this movement we will need a professional crew of filmmakers, ready to bring an unbridled, breathtaking, cinematic look to what could otherwise be a boring TV special. Given that the film also has a road trip element to it, where amazing musicians will be live-recorded in scenic locales, we also need to hire excellent audio engineers to provide album-quality recordings. Your donation is helping us hire the best photographers and recordists available.
Equipment: As we've seen in the past, quality counts, especially when it comes to a historical documentary. We don't want this to be a boring, low-quality infomercial. We want this to be a highly emotional experience. In order to accomplish that, we need to rent high-resolution cameras, pro lighting kits, and industry-standard audio gear. The common understanding is that documentary visuals don't matter. However, that is simply not true. Every week, Hollywood releases beautiful-looking lies into our culture, alluring people by visual merit. SO, by donating to make our film look beautiful, you are supporting more than a makeover. You are supporting a vision for faith-based films that declare JESUS to be the most beautiful person in the universe. This is not beauty for beauty's sake. This is beauty for Jesus' sake.
Evangelism: Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that "Life is journey, not a destination." This is especially true when it comes to documentary filmmaking. Oftentimes, it's easy to get caught up in making a product, but we'll be taking this journey very seriously too. We love people, whether we meet them on planes, around coffeehouses, in restaurants, or on street corners. So we're asking you to equip us with JESUS REVOLUTION materials wherever we go.
Along with our general interview trips, our ultimate plan is to drive a JESUS BUS (A retro 1970s Tour Bus with "Jesus Saves" painted boldly on the broadsides) up the coast of California to San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district, where the movement began back in 1967. Along the way, our team will be passing out pamphlets, stickers, church-search cards and sharing God's love with anyone that we meet. Your money is helping us make a greater impact.
Because in the end, this isn't about a movie, it's about a movement. And wherever we roam, God has asked us to be ready to share the hope that we have.
Risks and challenges
Given the unwieldy nature of the subject matter and of documentary filmmaking in general, sometimes factors beyond our control come into play that may cause unforeseen delays. While it is our sincere desire and goal to have this film finished and ready for official distribution by August 2015, we unfortunately cannot guarantee this date. That being said, as an essential part of THE JESUS REVOLUTION TEAM, you'll be the first to know, and you will receive constant updates on schedule, distribution plans, and relevant progress.
Thankfully, since we aren't "waiting for a story to unfold before our eyes" like many other non-historical documentaries, we are able to lock ourselves into a tighter and more focused production schedule, and are dedicated to both responsible stewardship practices and strategic shooting schedules.
Thank you ahead of time for your patience, understanding, and partnership. We love you guys.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
