Here are a couple pics of the prototype deck:
Have you ever wanted to know what YOU would look like if you were ZOMBIFIED? Now is your chance! I am going to create a playable poker deck using original custom zombie sketch card artwork! Here's how it works...the first 54 backers at the $60+ levels will secure their spot in the deck. The backer will send me a photograph of them (or a loved one...wouldn't this make a unique and awesome gift?!) in their favorite zombie pose....I will use that as my main reference for the drawing, adding the gory details (blood, scabs, injuries, weapons, etc), with a focus on maintaining a likeness of the subject, and create a piece of original artwork, a 2.5x3.5" drawing using copic markers of the subject as a zombie! The drawing will be roughly the actual size of the poker card. That image will then be assigned to a specific card in the deck. So your zombie image will be immortalized in a poker deck that will be distributed to you and all other backers that purchase a deck!
a couple special features that will be included:
*custom tuck boxes featuring some artwork from the deck
*custom card stock for the originals (back shown here, front blank to draw on)
I've got an add-on available as well:
+$10 each additional complete 54 card deck. This can be added on to any tier that already includes the complete deck, and you can add on as many as you like. There's not an additional shipping charge, which is why it lowers the price per deck for each one you add on.
***instructions for add-ons: There is no 'button' for an add-on. If you want an add on, you simply add that amount to your pledge.
First stretch goals reached:
*every backer who is receiving something in the mail (ie at the $5 pledge level or higher) will receive a random card in the deck autographed by the artist (me), and a Drawing Dead sticker.
*every backer who has a spot in the deck will also receive an additional 3 copies of their specific card.
Once the project funds, I will begin drawing the sketch cards that will comprise the deck. If you have a preference which card you want to represent, please let me know, but I cannot guarantee any specific card (I've been tracking requests in the order the pledges come in). The 36 backers at the $60 level will get the cards numbered 2-10 in each of the 4 suits, with the 18 backers at the $80+ level getting full color images representing the face cards and aces in each suit, as well as the 2 jokers. In addition, the aces and joker card images will be used on the card backs for the entire deck.
I have drawn some of my friends and family as zombies, and the results have always been a big hit. So this is something that could make an amazing and truly unique gift for the zombie fan, poker player, or sketch card collector in your life.
Thank you so much for your support and interest in my artwork, and helping me to reach my goal of becoming a full-time artist/stay at home daddy!
Risks and challenges
The main potential problems with completing this project would be if the project doesn't generate enough interest, or generates too much. I have set the goal at a reasonable level, so that it could fund even if not all 54 original cards in the deck sell. In that case, I'll do the artwork on my own to fill the final spots, and the project will still be completed.
If there is too much interest, and the spots fill up quickly and the project funds before the deadline, I'll start a second campaign and fill another deck...obviously this would take some time, but if there is enough interest there is no reason I wouldn't do a 2nd deck with all new undead artwork!
The only other real risk I can fathom is the time it will take to actually create 54 sketch cards, design the deck, and get them printed and shipped. This is why I put a tentative ship date of August...Realistically I could get this done in 2 months, so if the kickstarter funds in May I gave myself 2 months to draw, a month for the design, printing, and shipping, and an extra month just in case any of that takes longer than expected.
However, I've been doing sketch cards for official trading card sets for the last few years now, and I am used to meeting harsh deadlines, often doing about 50 cards in a month, and I've never missed a deadline. So I have no doubt that I will be able to complete the artwork for this project in a timely fashion.
The company I plan to use for printing is very fast, very nice quality (300gsm smooth). I have used them before for my business cards, and I was so happy with the result, that is one of the main reasons I chose to run this kickstarter campaign. So I have no concerns with the printing company coming through with a high quality product very fast.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
