10/14/17 UPDATE: Sugarplum Chronicles doesn't look like it's going to fund so after giving it a lot of thought I've decided to end the campaign early, that's the bad news. While I understand the arguments for seeing the project through to the end, the campaign just isn't meeting basic thresholds for funding at this point, and I do not plan to reboot the campaign in the future.
I started making Sugarplum Chronicles not really knowing what to expect. I found a project that forced me to grow as an artist and learn how to design a game. I went to my first tabletop game convention about a year later not really knowing what to expect. I found an amazing community there. A few years later I started the Kickstarter campaign not really knowing what to expect. I found the support of a lot of great people, but a number of factors have led to my decision to end it here.
I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for their support and encouragement throughout the creation of the game and this short Kickstarter campaign. Thank you for sharing and most of all for pledging to support Sugarplum Chronicles. For any future updates from the world of Sugarplum Chronicles, please follow us on Facebook.
A dark curse has fallen over the kingdom of Sugarplum, and the Frosted Throne sits empty. As a Dream Mage with incredible powers and powerful ambitions you must set out on a journey across Sugarplum's four realms to take the crown for yourself.
But it will not be easy...
Enemies and Encounters along the Candy Road will test you, dangerous Nightmares haunt your quest, other Dream Mages will do their best to sabotage you, and even if you do manage to take the crown for yourself, you will have to fight to keep it!
Sugarplum Chronicles is a candy-themed adventure tabletop game in which Players roll to determine movement, but then must decide whether they'll move backwards, forwards, or take the less beaten paths. Depending on the color of the tile the Player lands on they could encounter either enemies, events, treasures, candy shops, dreams, or nightmares.
Players start with a Player mat, one Lemon Drop, and a Player Pawn placed on the start tile, in the seaside city of Sweetport.
Players will move through the four realms of Sugarplum using a mix of chance and strategy, landing on colored coded candy tiles which signify either events, landmarks, candy shops, treasures, slumber, new realms or levels, or a brief rest.
Along the colorful candy road players will face off against sweet and salty enemies using a D-20 based combat system that applies both the player and enemies' attack, defense, and Health Points.
As you progress through the four realms, enemies will become more powerful, but you too will gather more and more lemon drops you'll use to purchase better weapons, items, and tasty healing treats....
The first player to make it to the ruler tile receives a number of perks that they'll have to make use of in order to keep the crown for themselves.
- A yummy blend of action, adventure, and Lemon Drops
- Unleash spells, mercenaries, and teddy bears on fellow players
- A darker twist on a candy-themed fantasy world
- Over sixty unique, and 'edible', weapons and items
- An exciting PVP endgame to decide the new Ruler of Sugarplum
- Imaginative artwork by the game's creator
Sugarplum Chronicles features 80 unique Event and Slumber card illustrations, 40 Item illustrations, and a beautifully detailed 18"x18" quad-fold board that immerses you in the world of Sugarplum from the moment you start your adventure to the final battle for control of the Kingdom.
Each enemy, encounter, and item was designed by the game's creator with the goal of telling the story of the world, the races living within it, and putting players in the shoes of a Dream Mage fighting to take the crown.
"The race to the end of the board and the PvP play that follows can be exciting, full of excellent loot, and contains enough player interaction where it doesn’t feel like everyone is playing their own game... Combat, while simple, is satisfying, especially since each monster has an “Instant Kill” number that when rolled…instantly kills the monster. It’s not a common occurrence, but it makes you feel great when you instantly take out a pretty nasty foe." - Rob Kalajian, A Pawn's Perspective
"Sugarplum Chronicles is an enjoyable experience that is easily played in a short amount of time and is good for the whole family. Even though it suggests 10 years and up... my daughter is 8, and she had no problems playing through the game (in fact, she nearly beat me), so if you have kids younger than that, there’s a strong chance they’ll still be able to enjoy it with you." - Dustin Nichols, Geek Pride

Risks and challenges
The artwork and game design are completed, and aside from some small reformatting of the rule book and some of the cards, Sugarplum Chronicles is ready to ship.
Manufacturing and shipping will be handled by The Game Crafter, a company which has provided the same service for over 50 successfully Kickstarted games. Because I am a first-time designer, opting to partner with The Game Crafter for the campaign will take the guess work out of that side of the process, and ensure that all backers receive their rewards on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
