About this project
Western is a Swedish roleplaying game set in the Wild West, that we now want to share with all English speaking gamers and Wild West fans. The fourth edition of Western was released in Swedish last year. The game is thoroughly playtested, full of setting features and game mechanics to support the setting and encourage roleplaying. Over 300 full color illustrations were made especially for the two core books – artwork of the highest International standards.
At the GothCon Awardshow this Easter, Western got 7 awards, based on votes from over 700 índividual gamers (and readers of the Swedish gaming magazine Fenix):

I wonder if I have ever seen a more beautiful roleplaying game from a Swedish game designer? I don’t think so. This is the ultimate Wild West roleplaying game and possibly the best game ever developed in Sweden, all categories.

In my view, Western IV succeeds in being a modern roleplaying game that has not forgotten its roots. There are lots of forms and can look complex at face value, but you quickly realize that there is an easy but elegant game system at its core. Western IV bring history to life in a spellbinding way and I wish more roleplaying games took their era as seriously as Western IV does.

To play, you will need the first two core books. Each title is released in hard cover, have an appendix at the end with extra resources and all handouts are included even in the standard editions. All illustrations are made to enhance the text.

The Law of the Land – The Game Masters’ Book covers rules on everything from reputation and gunfights to chases, a lot more on weapons and equipment, a scenario generator, rules for creating NPCs, archetypes to use when you play, thoughts on campaign building, and a ready-to-play adventure. This title includes the Western way of shooting – our signature game mechanic that dates back to our first edition of the game back in 1989.

Three spreads present 28 target templates: silhouettes of various target types. Aim by placing our crosshair (printed on transparent film) over the part of the target you want to hit. This sets Western apart from other games. A few have come up with similar solutions after us, but no one has provided a better way to do it – in our humble opinion!
Western is constantly the biggest roleplaying game on the Swedish convention scene. Even though the game looks as good as any coffee table book, its real strength shines through when you play. The game already has ten published adventures in Swedish, and English versions of five of them will be part of the base kit provided through this Kickstarter.
Not satisfied with that, we are currently preparing a bunch of new sourcebooks. As well as working with some of Sweden’s best and most beloved game writers and designers, we are also adding some international star quality to our team, including Graeme Davis, Ken Hite and Will Hindmarch. When it comes to artwork, the fabulous Lukas Thelin is our lead designer and do most of the illustrations, but for future releases we also plan to bring on great talents from all over the world, including Javier Charro and Mark Stacey.
Western is a game that is meant to be played, so we start out by offering not only the core rules, but also a good supply of scenarios and supplementary material to make your gaming experience even better. Everything presented here will be made available at the same time and can thus be shipped together, but additional sourcebooks and scenarios unlocked through stretch goals will require additional shipping.
The Dry County
Lukas Thelin’s illustrations continue to be top notch, they are vibrant and full of creative joy. The Dry County is an exuberant and very funny adventure.

Last Stop White Haven
Last Stop White Haven could form the basis for an entire campaign. The conflicts and intrigue that may still be unsolved after the scenario is enough to build multiple continuing adventures around and I would be happy to turn the entire gallery of characters to recurring villains or allies. Last Stop White Haven is a well written and thrilling adventure with a beautiful design and gorgeous illustrations.

Risks and challenges
Even though everything we offer in this Kickstarter campaign already exists in Swedish and is already playtested and illustrated, life can still happen: things beyond our control that makes everything take a little longer than anticipated. We have learned that the hard way, battling cancer in the past. We cannot guarantee that nothing will happen that might affect the progress and cause delays. Nobody can do that. We can only say that the estimate of time needed is based on our experience, and we have tried not to be too optimistic.
On the other hand, another thing you can learn from our previous projects is this: we will never undercut you. Whatever life throws in our road, we will never deliver less than we promised. It might take longer than we hoped, but you are more likely to receive a little extra here or there, simply because we want to deliver high quality whenever we can.
