About this project
Movado is a personal vision that Writer and Director, Byron Woo has set to prepare for over a year. He has teamed up with a talented band of performers as part of his cast, and a dedicated crew that want to help bring his vision to life.
Movado will be a film that takes viewers on a journey of experience translated through music and the expressive movement of choreographed dance. The word "movado" itself is translated as "movement" in the language of Esperanto. While the focus is to bring forward a journey in motion, the film is also an appreciation for the struggles that make us learn and define who we are.
Life is kinetic and full of motion; always moving forward, and by incorporating music and dance as the medium to express universal emotions of treading through life, the film is allegorical and emanates pure poetry, putting weight and emphasis in the realization of how life is beautiful because of the journey we are all bound to take.
We will use colors to illustrate aspects of experience that represent the phases in life we go through. Everything in this film will have meaning with an intention to acknowledge the nature of the human condition and place pride in our own emotional resilience.
Life is tough, but we manage to roll through everyday -- learning, breathing and having to move on to make our way on a path to discovering who we are as we build our strength and wisdom. The fact that we brave through life makes all of us fighters and survivors of the epic we call "Life". Movado is beautiful with a touch of wanderlust and we hope you see it the way we do.
Those of us who are involved with Movado have been working as filmmakers and storytellers for awhile now. We are a mixture of independent artists, performers and film/video professionals from the San Francisco Bay Area. We are passionate about what we do and we all have that creative drive and organization to know what it takes to put a film together. We also want to share this with you. While our experience gives us the confidence, we firmly believe that Movado will be beautiful and is something you will connect with.
We've made all our plans, went and sought out our wonderful performers, and gathered a talented crew, collaborated with supportive peers and gained valuable input and confidence in our friends and family. Now, we have to pull through by taking everything to the next step. We want to build an audience and gain your support. We are one step away from bringing all the components of this film to the front and to life. What is left is getting funded for Movado to be fully realized.
WHAT WE NEED AND WHERE YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS GO
We need your support and are looking to raise $10,000 to account for the bulk of our production costs. We'd like to do this right.
The money we raise will go to:
Securing a location which involves permits and fees.
- Two days of production.
- Feeding our cast and crew. We want to make sure they are being taken care of.
- Camera and Lighting equipment rentals and services.
- Production Design, Costume, Props and Art supplies.
- Production Transportation costs.
- Crew/Cast labor and accommodation, such as stipends and acquiring other essential equipment and supplies.
- Festival submission fees.
No penny will go to waste and there is something in it for you when you make your pledge.

Risks and challenges
Since preparing for this film has taken a considerable portion of time, we are also aware of the consequences and risks at stake if we do not accomplish acquiring our desired funding. The challenges we face have also been discussed at length and we're ready to roll with the punches. There's a harsh reality we have to face when needs are not met and we are prepared for it.
If we do not make our goal, we face having to go back to the drawing board by starting from scratch and making changes. While this project has a lot of importance, it still can be made. We will have to put Movado on hold until a better funding solution is met. We'd also have to get feedback to find out what may have been a factor to us not meeting our goal.
We have planned ahead of time and want to secure the availability of our cast and crew. Most of us have already made a time commitment and are ready to move forward, but also realize that there is a chance that we'll have to acquire new crew because of the amount of time the project may be put on hold trying to rectify the situation.
The biggest challenge would be that not many people may align with the vision of Movado, and this would contribute to the ultimate decision of us having to drop the project if our needs are not met. Most of our projected budget is rooted in high costs and if we do not have any funding because there is no support, then we would have to set our limits and move on, but we still have to try first before having to make hard decisions.
The constant challenge of making films is captivating an audience, and we take the greatest pleasure of having to translate our art for it to be widely understood and appreciated, but as passionate we all are about what we do, and what this project means, we strongly believe that we are able to attract patrons through platforms like Kickstarter. Part of what makes Movado a solid project is that we all can relate to the central topic of struggle and of our own experience. What better to see our lives interpreted and performed to by very talented dancers, as well as be directed by someone who has a clear theme and vision?Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
