ComfortWay has solved the high cost of mobile data roaming by developing a multi-carrier, Virtual SIM technology that lets international travelers get affordable data roaming in 100+ countries at local rates.
We now want to embed our proprietary chip design with Virtual SIM technology into a convenient battery case for iPhone 5 / 5s / 6 / 6+. We call it the ComfortWay Travel Case!
Get all-day data roaming for $2 per day, or purchase pay-as-you-go Mobile Internet at 2 cents per MB. And have 10+ extra hours of battery life on hand.
ComfortWay has developed a Virtual SIM chip coupled with a Cloud Billing platform that lets travelers get mobile Internet service from most major mobile carriers all around the world at local rates -- without altering your phone.
Just turn on 'Start Internet' via our free ComfortWay app whenever you arrive in a new country. Keep your same phone number worldwide.
We’re now integrating our technology into a 2400mAh extended battery case for iPhone 5 / 5s / 6 / 6+. It also works as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 users.
Compare ComfortWay with other data roaming solutions:
And ComfortWay is the only technology that will work with all major mobile operators anywhere in the world:
When you arrive to a new country, snap your iPhone into our ComfortWay Travel Case and tap “Start Internet” on our free iOS app.
Our embedded Virtual SIM module automatically downloads the correct SIM spec's from the local mobile operators. The mobile network with the best data connection speeds is automatically selected, so you don’t have to even think about it. As we continue to sign up more mobile operators, our cloud server automatically reconfigures our firmware via 'over-the-air' updates -- so you will continue to have access to new mobile data services anywhere in our growing list of countries.
While our Virtual SIM technology connects to each mobile operators' cellular towers, our Cloud Billing platform provides you as much or as little data as you need (at local wholesale rates) without locking you into a rate plan. You can turn on/off mobile Internet connection at any time, and our data credits never expire.
Your iPhone connects to our ComfortWay chip, embedded in the battery case, via a low-power Wi-Fi signal so your phone sees ComfortWay as an available Wi-Fi network. That lets you use your regular telephone number and any VoIP app for voice calling over our data networks, as well as connect up to 10 additional devices.

Previous Hardware Experience & Mobile Operator Relationships:
ComfortWay Travel Case is our second hardware product. We already have an earlier ComfortWay device working in 30 European countries and being sold in airports throughout Europe since 2012 (http://www.comfortway.com)
The original ComfortWay is a stand-alone device that works as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, and based on that experience we started developing our ComfortWay Travel Case project in 2014 -- expanding our Virtual SIM technology to work with more mobile operators and making experiments with different hardware form-factors.
In order to offer flat-rate pricing for data roaming traffic, we also had to develop our own billing system which allows us to give our customers true "pay-as-you-go" pricing without being locked into fixed data plans and monthly fees. We also sign our data purchase agreements directly with the mobile operators, so we're eliminating 'roaming brokers' from the equation and therefore saving costs.
We have demonstrated our first product at major travel exhibitions such as ITB in Berlin and World Travel Market in London. Last September, ComfortWay was selected as one of "the hottest and most innovative travel start-ups and innovations" at Travel Distribution Summit in New York.

We have developed a compact (50 x 40 x 3 mm) module which includes:
- HSPA+ Qualcomm mobile chipset and antenna
- Embedded SIM chip with “over-the-air” update technology
- Low power Wi-Fi chipset
- ComfortWay firmware with API for interaction with third-party applications.
The module is managed via our cloud platform with own billing and Internet bonus systems.
As soon as a Comfort Travel Case user clicks “Start Internet” in the ComfortWay mobile app, the module sends a request to our server for Virtual SIMs from local mobile operators. The embedded SIM chip is updated “over-the-air” and activates a connection with the best local operator (without involving roaming brokers).
Currently we have agreements with 54 operators in Europe and America and plan to expand the coverage to 100 countries beginning May 2015
Billing system provides honest pay-as-you-go rates, online control over expenses on data, and easy adding of credit with bank cards and e-money.
We've also built in a unique bonus system which provides free mobile Internet credits after booking a hotel or a ticket at popular booking systems. We receive commission fees from our travel partners and we share this revenue with our user customers.
ComfortWay was founded in 2012 by Oleg Pravdin after a business trip to Europe and Asia left him with a $5,000 data roaming charge on his mobile phone bill. Together with Yaroslav Svintsov they started a hard work on development of the innovative solution for travelers.
We already have a commercial product which combines telecom, billing and online booking technologies. It covers the entire European Union and provides unlimited Internet access charged at a flat daily rate. It's being sold in major airports (London, Frankfurt, Madrid and Berlin), in e-shops, and in our European offices.
ComfortWay is now a multinational team with offices in the USA, Europe and China, and travel partners that include Booking.com, Excursiopedia.com, Europcar.com, Hotel.info, and dozens of others.
In March 2015 we will be launching ComfortWay Travel Case at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, the largest mobile exhibition in the world.

Risks and challenges
Our main challenge will be our negotiation processes with local mobile operators throughout the world. Currently we have working agreements and Letters of Intent with 50+ mobile operators in Europe and America. While we prefer to negotiate direct agreements with the operators, it is possible that will need to work via brokers in some countries in order to expand our coverage. It is also possible that some mobile operators will refuse to work with us entirely.
On the product side, we already have a previous commercial hardware product that serves as a prototype; we have proven supplier and vendor relationships for manufacturing our proprietary chip module; we have built out our cloud billing and service platform; and we have successfully integrated with popular booking systems. We also have a beta-version of our iOS mobile app.
The last step is to embed our proprietary module into a battery case -- for which we will use a proven OEM battery manufacturer. Upon completion of a successful Kickstarter, we can place our initial order and a prototype ComfortWay Travel Case product will be ready this December for testing.
When we have a final working prototype of the Travel Case we will apply for Apple's 'Made-for-iPhone' (MFi) certification, but there is a risk that they will decline our application. That risk is mitigated by the fact that we will use a known OEM battery manufacturer for production.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
