About this project
STAG is a short film project that is a dramatic thriller with strong elements of action and horror. The film opens with a man who wakes naked, dazed and confused on the floor of a derelict cabin. With blood on his hands, no clue how he got there and only disjointed shards of memories from the previous evening, our stranger is scared and confused. What has he done? How did he get there? His isolation is shattered when a rock crashes through the window and offers a simple message: RUN.
Flushed from the cabin and into the woods, our stranger comes face to face with his captors; four men in animal masks and we are dragged on a frantic chase through the forest that ends at a parked car on the side of a rural road. Only here are our questions finally answered.
THE CREATIVE TEAM
STAG will be directed by RJ Sauer, who has produced commercial content for the last ten years. He previously directed & produced the award-winning adventure documentary, A Thin White Line, and the award-winning short, Anirniq, shot in the remote arctic landscape of Baffin Island. He is also currently in development of his first feature film, Forsaken.
STAG was written by Michael Boland, a Vancouver based screenwriter and professional photographer.
The film originated from a few individual images that emerged in my head - as they so often do - in the most random of situations or locations. From the images, a concept quickly fell into place. I was motivated to create something driven by visuals and tempo, something visceral, and I loved the idea of diving right into a strange situation with no back story. With short films, there is very little time for conventional storytelling. It is always an exciting challenge to produce a complete thought in five minutes.
Because we also create a lot of commercial work, I am excited to collaborate with all of my incredibly talented colleagues and crew to focus our energy on something dramatic where we have total creative control.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT?
It's impossible to produce a high quality short film of the standard we demand without some costs. We have the great fortune of working with a highly talented and experienced crew who are passionately donating their time, energy and incredible expertise. We also have very good relationships with various industry vendors who are offering us amazing rates on the film equipment we need. And Brüdder Productions will be donating Post Production Services. But even with all of this generosity, we will still have hard costs like location fees, equipment costs, transportation, wardrobe, props etc that need to be funded through your support!
We want to thank you for your pledges with rewards that we think mean something! We have an amazing logo design, created by graphic design artist, Shaun Kingerlee, that will be used for film posters + t-shirts. And we have capitalized on the incredible photographic talents of our screenwriter, Michael Boland, to offer some film memorabilia and portrait shoot rewards. Plus, we will be throwing a Film launch party when all this is said and done with all of the crew and talent, and a limited amount of VIP tickets are on sale here. Trust us, you will want to be there!
OTHER WAYS TO HELP
We would love for you to donate, but if you can’t – that’s ok, you can still help us out incredibly by sharing this with everyone you know. Upload this link to your various online networks and keep checking back with us for updates. Kickstarter is a wonderful opportunity for artists to create new and exciting work.
The screening party will set soon and will be towards the end of November. More updates to come.
The screening party will be held in Vancouver, BC. We have several venues chosen and will update with the exact location shortly. It will include drinks, a screening of the short film and then a DJ dance party.
Most of the rewards we have on offer can be easily shipped so that isn't a problem. But maybe some of the rewards are not suited for you unless you are up for a visit! Check out the rewards list and make your choice...
