Austin ArtWheels seeks to be as innovative and forward- thinking as the city that inspires our name. AAW brings the arts to the streets
Austin ArtWheels has been a project in the works for some time. Terry & Stephanie Chastain knew they wanted to start another gallery when they relocated from San Francisco to Austin (Terry attended UT Austin where he received his BFA in Fine Arts), What they really wanted was to move outside the traditional gallery concept and create a mobile gallery that could bring art to the streets, schools and community as a whole. When they happened upon a lovely, 1987 Chevy Stepvan, they knew they had to move on that vision.
With your support the van can be renovated to act as a traveling gallery and classroom. Designed for maximum exhibition space. the stepvan will be visually stimulating, a work of art on it's own. The exterior will need to be repainted with the logo emblazoned on the side panels. Cut out letters will adorn the roof spelling, "ArtWheels". The interior is designed with stark gallery walls and overhead spot lamps The flat files will be installed and museum folding racks will display up to 40 works on paper, easily accessible.
Austin ArtWheels is eager to collaborate with schools and non-profits to fill the gaps in arts funding. We also seek to support and highlight local emerging artists and to curate group exhibits.
Terry has years of experience teaching art (primarily printmaking) he has taught at Pilchuck School of Glass, Santa Reparta in Florence, Italy and Kala Art Institute, in Berkeley., Ca. Stephanie is a freelance writer and publicist. She currently promotes the venerable Esther's Follies in Austin. The Chastains have years of experience with curating, artist management, special events and community outreach.
Austin ArtWheels seeks to make art accessible to all--to bring the joy of art-making to the curious and to inspire artists of all ages and abilities.

Starting a new venture is always challenging. But Terry & Stephanie Chastain have created three small business ventures together and know what hurdles to expect. They have been researching the permit process through the city of Austin, investigating small businesses incentives and seeking out the possibility of becoming fiscally sponsored in a years time.
