Revenge of the Fanboys!
What if the Big Two stopped publishing comics? To stop that from happening Jack and Todd have to kill what they love!
This Kickstarter is for a 24 page issue #1 of a 4-issue series of a South Park-esque parody of the comic book industry, and more specifically the conflict between corporate comics versus creator owned comics. Watch as the battle lines are drawn and Jack and Todd must survive long enough to save their comics!
There is some adult/crude language so it is most suitable for adults.
So what is it about?
In an alternate reality, the vast majority of comic books are published by a single company entitled, "The Big Two". Our heroes Jack and Todd are going to their favorite comic book convention when they discover that The Big Two is planning on selling off their characters to a movie company that has no interest in making comics, they are only interested in the film rights.
Furthermore, they plan on announcing and finalizing the sale that Sunday during the convention!
In order to put a stop to this and save their comic books Jack and Todd have to show the movie company that the characters are more trouble than they are worth - that they are a poisoned brand.
Jack and Todd try to do this by creating as much chaos and controversy as they can during the convention!
Lining up to stop them is the corrupt Head of Acquisitions of the movie company who will stop at nothing to get what he wants, and the hired guns that he enlists who stand to make an enormous profit if the sale of the company goes through.
Is it for you?
That depends. It is not a traditional superhero comic with people in capes (although their are cosplayers). So if that is what you are looking for you will probably be disappointed in this project and I would encourage you to take a look at the many wonderful superhero options available on Kickstarter.
If you love comic book conventions, this project is for you. If you follow the comic book industry itself (love it or hate it) this project is for you. If you enjoy funny comics this project is for you. If you want to read a comic that doesn't take itself or its subject too seriously this project is for you.
Who is making this?
The creative team consists of the superstar Adrian Sibar on art, and the wonderfully talented Micah Myers on lettering/design. You may have previously seen Adrian's art on Batgirl, Bang! Tango, and Six Gun Gorilla. And just take a look at the beautiful pages he has already completed for this project!
Micah has lettering credits at Image, Dark Horse, Action Lab, Devil's Due, and others. I am incredibly fortunate to be working with these guys as they are both very talented.
Where is my money going?
Where it should, the creative team! There is no fluff here, the goal is as low as it possibly can be to facilitate this series getting made. The team that I have assembled here is top notch and deserve all of this and more. I am not getting any money out of this, I am doing all of this just for the opportunity to make a comic book, as you can see from the pie chart (mmm....pie) below.
Thank you very much for looking and if any of this appeals to you please consider backing!
Risks and challenges
I know backing projects on Kickstarter can be a scary thing. I personally have backed a couple of projects that I am fairly sure will never see the light of day.
But you can rest easy with this one. Every single cent that comes in through this Kickstarter will be going to the amazing creative team. I am not getting paid anything. For that reason the funding amount is as low as it can possibly be.
I love comic books and I always have so help me make this project a reality!
