UNIFORM is a clothing line on a mission. Our timeless classics are crafted to ensure you can look your best, do your best and be your best. All products are ethically made by working mothers in Africa's first fair-trade factory. And each purchase provides a school uniform to a child who could otherwise not attend school. The world's softest tee is just the beginning.
We quadrupled our initial goal and are ecstatic by the overwhelmingly positive response. Now we're focused on growing our backer community. Whether you can pledge $10 for the everyday tote or $48 for the world's softest tee, every one of you matters to us.
We all have too much to do and too little time. Effortlessly stylish, UNIFORM shirts are crafted to be silky soft with a flattering fit. You'll never want to take it off.
Softest. T-shirt. Ever. 63% Lyocell, 30% nylon, and 7% silk. The perfect blend for a perfect tee. Made from recycled beechwood, Lyocell produces no harmful byproducts and significantly less waste than other fibers. Nylon provides durability and moisture management. And silk supplies the softness.
Flattering fit. UNIFORM tees fit the way you want a t-shirt to fit. As Ecocult puts it, they have a “sophisticated fit that drapes perfectly.”
Factory-direct pricing. We have no retail overhead or middlemen, so we can provide premium products at value prices. Similar luxury brand tees cost twice as much.
Fair trade. UNIFORM manufactures products in Africa’s first fair-trade factory. We’re all about partnership and sustainability, not worker exploitation or environmental degradation.
Life-changing. Many African children are required to wear school uniforms, and their cost often forces kids to stay home. For every shirt we sell, a uniform is donated to a child who would otherwise go without an education. .
The Impact of a School Uniform.
UNIFORM puts an innovative twist on the traditional ‘one-for-one’ model. The “remix” means that we employ women from Liberia to make tees for you and school uniforms for children in their community.
Rigorous randomized studies by the Poverty Action Lab have proven that providing children with uniforms improved school attendance by 62% and dramatically increased test scores 0.25 standard deviations.
Free uniforms also have a dramatic impact on young girls, decreasing their school dropout rate by a third. For every three girls who stayed in school because of the three donated school uniforms, two delayed their pregnancy.
The Impact of a Working Mother.
Over 98% of the 300-person workforce in our Liberian factory are women. All of them are stakeholders in the L&J business; together, workers own 49% equity. Our employees receive living wages, free health care, 100% savings matching, and literacy classes. In a country where on average, only 30% of children are in school, 98% of our employees’ children are enrolled. Putting women into productive jobs results in advanced growth for the entire national economy.
Liberia has one of the of the lowest primary education enrollment rates in Africa; 6 out of 10 children of primary school-age are out of school. The cost of uniforms is a huge obstacle for Liberian families, especially given that 50% of working adults lost their jobs during the Ebola crisis.
Alongside the United Nations and Liberia’s Ministry of Education, our goal is to send 50,000 kids to school within a year. We believe that the path to sustainable development is about giving people the resources required to succeed.

UNIFORM is the first original clothing line launched by Liberty & Justice (L&J), the first Fair-Trade Certified apparel manufacturer in Africa. L&J had operated successfully in Monrovia, Liberia producing product for third party vendors until the 2014 Ebola crisis, which forced many West African companies and schools to shut down.
Chid Liberty, L&J's Liberian-born owner, conceived of UNIFORM as an innovative way to get the company's employees back to work and the community's children back to school. Along with Campaign Manager Maria Springer, Mr. Liberty and the UNIFORM team are responding to Liberia's post-Ebola challenges in a way that advances women rights and universal access to education for all children.
Risks and challenges
For the sake of transparency, we want you to know the following circumstances may present challenges in delivering product: (1) port clearance delays in West Africa; and (2) shipping delays to international addresses (all fulfillment will be done in the USA).
But because UNIFORM is being launched under the L&J, which has been established in Liberia since 2010, we’re confident we’ll be able to address whatever challenges arise.
On the off chance you’ve selected the wrong size, we’re happy to exchange your shirt.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
