Every good story needs a great beginning...once upon a time, back in 2013, I drew a sketchy witch after a walk on the beach. She was waiting for me in the shallows, daring me to make the story she was ready to tell. Thanks, Circe.
It started with my Villain, but I'd also need a Hero. And a Victim. The basic building blocks of narrative. A Triskelion.
A Hero, A Victim, A Villain; archetypes join forces to catapult their timeless narrative beyond the confines of beginning-middle-end and into a realm of consciousness that transcends the roles they were born to play.
Triskelion follows a goddess of Wisdom, a sea-witch with immeasurable power, and an innocent girl and her cat as they unite ancient story with a post-modern quest for persona. Gnothi Seauton!
Triskelion was an experiment in comics: could I combine fiction and non-fiction, theory and practice? Could I take a closer look at the archetypes and mechanics of story, and understand how stories influence culture and how culture influences story? Also, can I make it look interesting?
For the first time all five issues of Triskelion are collected into a single trade, with backmatter that includes my research paper "Hero Theory" in it's entirety, an essay by David Allison, brand new art, and "behind the scenes" process sketches. 200+ pages of redefining comics.
Along with The Complete Edition, you can pick up signed A5 prints of page art, original pages of art, and even commissions - your favorite fictional character, or your favorite real-life human.
Risks and challenges
The book is already done; no waiting time after funding for me to create the comic. Once the funding goal is met, I'll hit print and get copies in the mail.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
