OBSERVE: Due to the Kickstarter will not let me write this project in Swedish, everything here is in English. However, I emphasize that the book is written in Swedish and that a Swedish edition will be printed (if succesefully founded). An English version is currently unavailable, but can definitely be a possibility depending on the reception and interest. Thus, in pure Swedish/English; THE BOOK. IS. WRITTEN. IN. SWEDISH.

Hispania Citerior, in 114 BC.  After several years of violence and oppression, a minor rebellion has grown into a full-scale rebellion in the Roman province of Hispania Citerior. The leader of the rebellion, Bequim, is driven by an unsaturated hatred against the Romans after that they raped his wife and expelled him and his two sons from their home. Gaius Marius, governor of the province, is trying to quell this rebellion in the bud before his magistrate expires. After several defeats, where the rebels cunning and tactics has outwitt the Romans and caused them heavy losses, Marius see no choice but to self-manage his forces in this struggle; a fight where blood and death will not be avoided. If he fails, he will pull dishonor and shame upon himself and his family. Moreover, his opportunities for cursus honorum will forever be nullified.

For about six years, I have worked on my great epos of one of Rome's most famous people - Gaius Marius. He lived between 157-86 b.c. and was to do as much for Rome that he came to be known as the city's "third founder", together with Romulus and Remus. All that he accomplished; all that he got to experience is impressive and difficult for us "modern" people to understand. Without considering that it is a hyperbole can his life be said to be plucked straight out of a book. Without any fancy generations - gens - he came to settle in among the power elite as a "novus homo" - a new man. Well received in the political establishment, he came to reform the army and to introduce a vocational one. In addition to this, he came, among others, to be elected as consul seven times in a span of 21 years (despite the fact that the law said that it had to be at least ten years between each consulate); play the lead role in a civil war; save Rome from both invaded Cimbres as threatening Macedonians and Numidians; be married to Julius Caesar's aunt and, when Caesar's father passed away, becoming a stepfather to him and much more.

To get all these events in just one book is impossible. Therefore, my aim is/was to write a novel series in four parts. The first part - "Novus Homo" - has now been written and is ready to be sent fort printing. However, it is a big expense for me to self-finance this.

I will only press up a hardcover book that have the standard dimension of 135x210mm. I have never liked "pocket" and if you wan't to do something, do it propertly, my mother always told me. Also, when I'm lying in my bed, many years from now, reading my own book and looking back at this time, a pocket feels so... hm, "misplaced". The books front is hand-painted by a famous illustrator, Pernilla Dufwenberg, and will be painted in akvarell. I recomend you to visit her  blog/store!

I have had the script submitted to several publishers, of whom the majority returned with the message that it is well-written, interesting and exciting, but the genre is too narrow. I've even been called up by a publisher who said this to me personally. In Europe and the US, this genre is extremely large and the fact is that it is on the rise in Sweden. Authors such as Conn Iggulden, Simon Scarrow, Robert Harris, Steven Saylor, etc. becomes increasingly read by lowercase man. Unfortunately, the publishers I have turned to dare not to "take a chance" on my script, even if it is a masterpiece in the vein similar to the above-mentioned authors.

In addition to sending my manuscript to publishers, I have also tried many of Sweden's foremost historians in order to ask them for an opinion/review. A majority have, kindly and respectfully, thanked for my request but unfortunately declined because of the workload. However, Eva Queckfeldt come up with a statement that reads: "a highly credible depiction of Roman military life."

To press books are a great cost. I have received an offer of approximately 30 000 SEK. In addition to this I also have expenses on 25% tax for this kickstarter project, 5% fee to Kickstarter, marketing, banktransfer from US to Sweden and other miscellaneous minor expenses. Most likely, the total cost is to exceed the 45 000 SEK that I ask for, but I intend to solve this on my own. To add is that I do not intend to seek any profit with this project. The way I see it, it will more likely go plus/minor zero with Fortuna's benevolence. If I am to be realistic it is a bigger chance/risk that it will be a minus-deal for me. If the project would bring in more than the required 45 000 SEK, the sum will be used to partly suppress more books, partly to investments such as the procurement of literature, trips, visits to historians etc.for the next parts of the series.

My hope is to achieve the required 45 000 SEK in 60 days, which is the longest time to pursue a kickstarter-project. If all goes well and that the printing is on schedule, the book will be ready by the end of October or beginning of November, 2016.

Important information for you that contribute: If the target of 45 000 SEK is not reached, you will automatically get your money back. Until the 60 days has expired and the sum has been reached, your card will not be charged. If the target is not reached, the money will not be charged from your account. The sum will only land on my account if/when(!) 45 000 SEK (or more) is reached.

If the sum is reached, it will take about 2 weeks before I will recieve the money from you/Kickstarter on my bankaccount.

Once again I want to emphasize that the book is written in Swedish and an English version, unfortunately, is not currently available. However, this may change depending on how well the book is received.

If/When the project is achieved, I will, through a tool here on Kickstarter called "survey tools", sending out a "survey" to all who have contributed a sum equivalent to "bronze", "silver" or "gold", in which I will ask for the address and other important information I need to send out the books. This is also for thoose who intend to pick up the book in Motala ("Bronze - pick up in Motala"), so that I can get an identity and keep a book for you.

One suggestion from me is that you save the confirmation-mail you receive after having contributed, if any, against all odds, would error. I have not read anything negative about Kickstarter but then I am anxious that you should get your swedish edition-book, I want, in the longest able, give you both braces and strap.

If you have any questions or doubts about how to contribute, feel free to e-mail me. I also recomend to read theese Q&A:

Just click "Backing a project".

https://www.kickstarter.com/contact?ref=footer

To all of you who contribute, if 1 SEK or with 500 SEK or more, I really want to extend my deepest "thank you". You help me to accomplish my life's project!

Yours faithfully, Cristofer Andersson

Risks and challenges

As the book already has been written, there are few obstacles that can manifest itself, and these would, in all probability, be free of charge such as that printing/pressing takes a little longer e.d.

It could also be that I will have little time to manage to devote myself wholeheartedly to the project because of the job, which does a two of those who contributed may have to wait 1-2 weeks longer on their books than others.

I intend to be transparent and keep everyone informed when new information is added. Similarly, I intend to answer questions, email etc. so quickly, comprehensively also the adequate that is possible for me.
