Where to begin?
The day I met this vivacious 93-year-old?
Discovering her innovative photos of rock giant Neil Young?
Stunning concert shots of The Who, Mitch Ryder and The Rolling Stones taken years before Annie Leibovitz picked up a camera?
Or perhaps Dellaccio’s iconic album covers of bands like The Sonics climbing trees and glowering in front of misty waters?
Fast forward to 2010: an elegant 93-year-old in command of a state of the art digital Hasselblad, on her first photo shoot with a rock band in 3 decades. This is the stuff of legends, but it is also the heart of this project: revealing a remarkable story of a woman who reinvented herself several times and pursued her artistic dreams out of her Depression era childhood and went on to produce some of the most transformative images in rock photography.
Inspired and captivated by Jini’s life story, I set up a team of equally determined and creative colleagues to ensure this film is made. Our goal is to complete this project in Jini’s lifetime…and we have set our funding goal to tie in with Jini’s 94th birthday on January 31st, 2011!
Why we need YOU!
Sadly, art documentaries have few places to go for funding compared to other films. I have got this far (shooting interviews with Jini and reunions with musicians) thanks to my beg, borrow and persuasion strategy aided by the generosity of my family and friends and the production crew. But we are running out of time. Jini will be 94 in January and we desperately need to finish the film so Jini can enjoy the wider recognition she deserves, in her lifetime.
We need to urgently finance the final production shoot days and move into the edit suite. Your contribution will be spent on everything from the camera equipment to lighting gear and crew. With your help, we will be a vital step closer to ensuring Jini’s legacy is preserved for future generations to enjoy. Please donate now and spread the word.
With your support we can complete a film that goes behind the scenes of some of Jini’s most extraordinary photo shoots – a film that explores her life’s work, bringing art and music together. We hope you want to be part of this journey with us.
