All good things take time...
It has been almost two years since I've released any new music.
Two years of traveling, learning & experiencing all the growing pains that life on the road has to offer... both the good & the bad.
Making the decision to record this album has been a long time in the making. I have spent sleepless nights writing & compiling work tapes by sifting through months of old song demos. I cannot fully express the amount of work that has gone into these songs to make sure that they are perfect.
I don't go after anything I don't fully believe in whole heartedly & I certainly don't ask of those unless I am fully willing to put in the work, time & money in return.
I am inviting you to be a part of the next pinnacle chapter of my life.
This album is my step into a realm of new opportunities. I'm done being comfortable. I'm ready to take the plunge into the unknown & hit the ground running again into a fresh, mature, & new direction.
The definition & theme of dormancy is a concept that both inspires & intrigues me.
Dormant - n. a state of rest or inactivity; inoperative; in abeyance:
In a very real way, I have experienced this dormancy in my own life. For far too long I've been harboring songs just beneath the surface, pushing them aside & taking on other musical responsibilities to further my music career.
Ironically, to my self & others, one might artistically pin me as idle, inactive, even dead.
Instead of letting this state consume me, I am turning it around & using that untapped energy to fuel the fire for this next album.
'Red Mountain' will be the embodiment of that concept.
I cannot wait to share its songs with you.
I have used kickstarter successfully in the past & many of you have shown your support in so many ways. For that, I thank all of you! I would not be here today if not for your support, & you are all a part of this with me.
When you live & work in Nashville, quality isn't cheap.
I want nothing less than my absolute best for you to hear in 'Red Mountain'.
I've been working hard, day & night to make sure this is the best thing I have done to date.
I will be recording in Gnome Recording Studios, with engineer/producer/owner, Chase Weber. It's a beautiful studio space that is built into an old receiving warehouse. The history & feel of the space is inspiring in itself.
I want each & every one of you to feel like you're a part of this with me.
This isn't a pitch for money. This is an opportunity for you to join me & help me bring to light so much of what I've been dying to show you for the past couple years.
In this day & age, music is accessible for anyone to stream wherever they are from the palm of their hand.
Streaming services are an amazing tool for discovery, but not for funding.
It takes a lot more for an album to become a reality, and because of these services, independent artists are taking a hard hit when it comes to albums sales.
This is, in the truest sense of the word, a pre-order for the album.
I want each of you to feel just as personally involved as I am. I've put together several different options to chose from for as little or as much as you'd like to offer.
I'm very excited to be working along side Deeryard Designs for this release.
DeerYard is headed by the extremely beautiful & talented Emery Norman, (a.k.a. my wife).
She is an extremely talented visual artist, & you will notice that a few of the pre-order packages have options that include her prints.
Above all else, I want to convey this message with everything that I create:
I do not aim to distract you, I aim to inspire you.
'Red Mountain' personifies more than just a theme of dormancy & the struggle to become active again.
It is the hope, drive, & fear that makes the unattainable, attainable, the comfortable, uncomfortable, and the reward far greater than anything you could achieve by remaining in a dormant state.
I hope you will find that you, like myself, are not dead, just dormant.
You're ready to come undone for the sake of who you were meant to be.
Risks and challenges
One of the challenges that I will face with this record will be balancing time. I will be making sure that I am consistent and intentional with the time involved in the recording process.
A lot of people who will be involved in the making of this album are full time musicians, my self included.
It is very important to me to make sure that we set schedules & can all be flexible to make this project hold its value.
Money most likely will be another challenge, even with investing my own.
