About this project
Thank you for visiting the Switchhooks Kickstarter project! I am excited to be introducing Switchhooks; light switch plates that double as storage areas.
The idea is simple. It starts with the common ritual of walking in the door and turning on the lights. You need a place to store your keys, wallet, jacket, and bag. Switchhooks is that place.
Switchhooks allow your light switch plate to have a whole new function: storing your stuff! The switch plate is underutilized household real estate, right there on your wall. Switches are almost always conveniently placed next to a door. We can double the convenience by integrating a flexible storage capacity. Switchhooks are designed and tested for strength and durability, so they can accommodate a range of items and keep them handy for you.
Right now you can pre-order the plastic version. Available for a limited time on kickstarter are three variations of switchhooks made of sustainable bamboo and assembled in California. One version has hooks. Another has amazing neodymium magnets to hold key rings. Last but not least is the very versatile wall shelf which holds an awesome amount of stuff. These will be laser cut and made for any type of switch plate.
Switchhooks are available with various storage options: hooks, shelves, and built-in magnets. The hooks and shelf's are rated for 5 pounds (a little over two kilograms). This is enough for most common storage items. Switchhooks are also designed so that if the design load is exceeded, the storage portion will break away cleanly keeping all those electrical wires safely covered up.
One line of Switchhooks uses magnets to hold key chains. These N42 neodynium magnets are strong enough to hold a key chain but not so strong that you would have to worry about your key fob or credit cards. The magnets fit flush with the surface and will never catch on things if you brush up against them
Some the feedback I heard from folks when testing out prototypes.
To make Switchhooks available on a larger scale, we need $20,000 to cover the start up and initial stages of a larger manufacturing process. Your pledge pushes this process forward by helping create the production tooling and getting the first production run off the ground.
Everything is ready to go. Let’s make it happen!
I think I've seen something like this before. Does it already exist?
That is a complex question. The short answer is "no" Switchhooks is a new proprietary technology. Switchhooks is my attempt to make a real business with a real product that you can buy and be proud to put in your home.
How strong are the magnets? Can they hold my keys?
the magnets are rated for 6lbs of pull. Plenty to hold your keys.
How strong are the hooks?
The hooks are rated for 5 Lbs (2kg)
How do I order?
When the campaign is over I will send you a survey asking you the necessary details to get you the Switchhook you want.So just wait until we reach the end of the pledge and you'll have a Switchhook in no time.
Doesn't this mean someone could, in some abstract theoretical case, break into my home and take my keys?
Okay, I get this one a lot. If some one has broken into your home. They are already in your home eating your food and stealing your stuff. Guess what!? They don't need your keys!
How many switchhooks are there?
right now you can chose from 26! Plus don't forget the hookswitch. That make 27 possible rewards to chose from!

When the campaign is over I will send you a survey asking you the necessary details to get you the Switchhook you want. Okay, I screwed up.This is my first kickstarter account. When I was making the kickstarter account I assumed based on other kickstarter campaigns that there would be some way to communicate details about your order when you are making your pledge. So just wait until we reach our limits and you'll have as Switchhook in no time.
The magnets are rated for six pounds plenty of strength to get the job done.
The hooks are rated for 5 Lbs (2kg)
That is a complex question. The short answer is "No" Switchhooks is a new proprietary technology. There have been a few concepts by other designers but many of these concepts are just that. Switchhooks is a real business with a real product hat you can buy and be poud to put in your home.
