Fast-paced rail shooter where you escape pursuers across an alien world.
My name is Alec Stamos, creator of Venusian Vengeance and the Tales of the Renegade Sector series. I'm here to present my current project, Flight of the Data-Thief, a fast-paced rail shooter.
In the lawless parts of the galaxy, massive corporations duke it out in all-out corporate warfare and espionage. You play as a Data-Thief: a skilled pilot who can fly into a corporate facility, grab their data, and then fly out again. Getting the data is a cakewalk. It's escaping back to your mothership that's the challenge. The whole planet is on high-alert and the corporation's private army is on your tail. You'll have to speed across a variety of alien environments while fighting off your pursuers if you want to see safety.
I'm planning on releasing the game later this year on PC, Mac, and Linux, as well as making versions for iOS and Android.
Early Rough Build
You can try out an early build of the game with 2 playable levels >here<
- Fast-Paced gameplay - An emphasis is put on speed. Weave through obstacles and grab speed-up powerups to put space between you and your pursuers.
- Branching paths - There are currently 16 planned stages, of which the player will see 7 in any one play-through. Most levels will contain multiple exits which lead to different levels.
- Clean, Colorful, Low-Poly Aesthetic - No use talking about it, let me show you:
Who am I?
My name is Alec Stamos, and I'm designing and programming this game, along with doing the art and music. I've finished many small and medium sized projects in the past, many of which have been solo projects. Examples of my work include top-down run 'n' gun Venusian Vengeance, action adventure game, Treasure of the Abandoned City, and arcadey platformer, Lox, along with many other projects.
What the Money Goes Towards
Funding will mainly allow me to support myself as I work on the project, letting me give the game my full attention. I will also use the funding money to make iOS and Android versions of the game.
$6000 - Split-screen multiplayer racing mode.
$8000 - Oculus Rift support
$10,000 - Gender-Swap Mo -- nah, just kidding you, you play as a fighter-ship. The person inside is whatever gender you imagine them to be. Woman, man, intersexed, alien with no concept of human gender, robot, your imagination is the only limit. Extra money at this point will just buy me more time to add in bonus content.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
This is a one-man project which brings with it challenges. I have, however, completed many solo projects, and know how to push through.
