THEATRE UNCUT is a theatrical project that encourages people to start thinking and talking about social issues that they see happening in the world around them.
We do this by asking leading playwrights to respond to the situation in their own country through writing short plays. We then make the scripts available for anyone to perform anywhere rights free.
The plays then belong to the participating creative teams. They can perform them in any way they like, reading to friends in a front room or to an audience of hundreds in the street; in a theatre with a full set and costume or shouting to the wind from the top of a mountain. We simply provide the material for artistic innovation, and groups all over the world supply the vision and energy behind each individual performance.
This year we are joined by Mohammad Al Attar from Syria, Marco Canale, Blanca Domenech and Helena Tornero from Spain, Lena Kitsopoulou from Greece, Neil LaBute from the USA, Andri Snaer Magnuson and Thor Arnasson from Iceland and David Greig, Anders Lustgarten, Clara Brennan, Hayley Squires, Kieran Hurley and Stef Smith from the UK.
These extraordinary writers have taken on the Eurozone Crisis, the Occupy Movement, the current situation in the Middle East, the closure of libraries and the state of global capitalism.
Last year we had 87 performances happening simultaneously in schools, universities, from Warwick to New York. Youth groups, community groups, professional actors and theatre makers all came together to create an international week of theatrical action highlighting the injustice of austerity.
Theatre Uncut 2012 will be held between the 12th - 18th November and we need your help. We are an entirely voluntary organisation where absolutely everyone donates their time, skill and energy.
There are costs that come along with running a project of this scale though, and we want to treat people as well as we can as we aren't able to offer fees.
Already this year we have had over 150 people download the plays all across the world South Africa, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Japan, all over the USA and UK - as you can see from this map http://goo.gl/maps/hGSpI
We need just £1000 to be able to cover our costs for Theatre Uncut 2012 to facilitate hundreds of productions of the plays all over the world. Whether you can afford to donate just £1 or cover the whole cost, any support you can offer would go towards encouraging positive artistic engagement with social issues all over the world.

Risks and challenges
Our greatest challenge in Theatre Uncut is simply making high quality new writing about social issues that affect all of our daily lives available to as many people as possible across the globe with no formal funding. All we aim to do is to cover our costs and make sure none of our contributors are out of pocket. This £1000 will just ensure that the core Theatre Uncut team that dedicate hours of their time to this project can continue to make this work available across the world.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
