About this project

Here at Beginners Tech we are Gizmo and Gadget daft, we love and admire anything that makes your life easier with a minimal amount of effort. The Ox Button by designer and innovator Aws Jan does just that, it allows you to go on with daily life without having to worry about the little things, you can then enjoy the big things in life.
Ox Button is a culmination of fashion, engineering and design mixed into one. The idea behind this little anodised high quality aluminium button is to safely secure your shades, glasses, sunglasses at all times throughout the day.
The product came about after many years of hardship with dropping expensive shades, family dropping prescription glasses only to realize the nightmare of scratched and cracked lenses. Friends always complaining on holiday trips where to put away their sunglasses, especially when their is no bag in site, either keep them on or leave them behind. These moments in life got me thinking, thus Ox Button was born.
What is needed to bring the Ox Button to life?
Investment for design, and development stages for the product has already been paid for by myself. I have even invested in the tooling to build the first small sample production run as you will see from the pictures below.
Your help is needed to get the first pilot run of the Ox Button to market including packaging.
I'm looking to Kickstarter to raise at least £12k, which will cover the extensive full production tooling and setup costs for producing the components, materials, anodising, laser engraving, packaging and facility rental and labor for assembly.
The Ox Button will be manufactured in a local workshop close to my studio flat, in London, UK. I have chosen to manufacture the button locally to make sure i can oversee quality control, keep costs to a minimum, and production levels at its highest.
Prototype manufacturing at the local workshop. Ox Button undergoing laser treatment. The button will be finished of with the below laser engraved detail on the reverse side of the button.
The button comes in various colour combinations as shown below.
Anodised blue, black, red, yellow and silver.
The reverse side has laser engraved detail and a press fit steel ring which will be explained further below.
The Ox Button is comprised of two main components. An injection moulded Neodymium disc magnet and the main anodised aluminium body with a press fitted steel ring.
The injection moulded Neodymium disc magnet, magnetises easily and securely to the back of the Ox Button centrally with the aid of the press fitted non anodised steel ring.
You can take the Ox Button when you go fishing, hiking, hunting, playing golf anywhere, the possibilities are endless.
SAFETY & WARNING ADVICE!
The button was designed so that securing the Ox Button to a shirt, pants or any other surface, relies around its strong magnetic system on the back part as shown above. This system is not suitable and should not be used for those with a pacemaker.
Securing your shades to the button is fairly simple.
Slip in the glasses through either groove and let the button do the rest.
The button was designed so that it can accept any type of glasses, whether prescription, sunglasses or sports shades, the Ox will handle them all.
Once the shades are in place, position the button anywhere around your body and then from inside your shirt or pants, place the injection moulded disc magnet from behind and you will have a perfect magnetised match. Your shades and button secure, ready to go.
I'm a hard working, dedicated individual designer with great makers, and manufacturing experts on my side. I've been working on the Ox Button for a few months now. Together, with my trusted makers and manufacturers, i'm thrilled to launch Ox Button to the world.

Risks and challenges
We have tried to keep the project as simple as can be. Designing and developing the Ox Button has been fairly interesting so far. The risks and challenges for the project are fairly low as we have already gone through the stages of motion for the tooling, production, anodising, right through to the final product.
Mainly when doing the full production run, we will need to keep on top of quality control, which we will be overseeing, to make sure that every Ox Button is up to our high quality standards. Smooth and anodised to its full colour glory.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
