The Calendar Years is a worship collective creating resources round the seasons of the liturgical year.
In December 2014 we released our first EP for the season of Advent: 4 songs in 4 different styles from electro pop to orchestral folk to garage rock. Featuring 5 songwriters and 8 musicians the EP was downloaded in over 25 countries and the songs were sung in churches from Maryland to Missouri.
This experimental spirit has continued in a form of irreverent liturgy in the nurturing environment of our church community in Brooklyn. Invocations, confessions, & benedictions have been written & many melodies sung over each season as we've kept wrestling with the church calendar.
We've already begun recording the Epiphany EP and the music featured in the Kickstarter video is "Brightest & Best".
This EP is a celebration that the light has come into the world & it's a much brighter sounding record full of hand claps, toy pianos & even some electronic dance music.
But we need your help to get these resources out. It's an unavoidable fact that music costs money to make and we'd love to remunerate the artists in our community to focus their time & energy on the project, as well as cover expenses such as mixing & mastering, to make this record truly amazing.
We've got some great rewards but I'm excited to announce that we've finally recorded "There's a Wideness in God's Mercy" & when you give to this campaign you will get an exclusive download of this song (I am sending these bandcamp codes out manually so there may be a short delay getting the code to you. Thanks for your patience)
Thanks in advance for partnering with us to create unique & experimental sacred music.
Risks and challenges
I'm not gonna lie. The riskiest part is asking for your money!
The biggest challenge is getting this record, and the worship leader resources, out at least 4 weeks before the season of Epiphany as churches tend to plan ahead & the Advent/Christmas season is one of the busiest.
Without your help this record will be a fleeting Instagram post & a perpetual demo. We'll continue to sing these songs in our community but we'd love to share them with other churches.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
