I’ve developed a system that uses interlocking puzzle pieces that allows you to take apart your buildings for easy transport and storage, as well as combine them so you can make different size buildings or even different styles. Its much easier to show you how this works, so check out the video and pictures for more info!
These buildings were cut / engraved on a rented laser. A HUGE thanks goes out to Daniel over at http://www.engineerable.com/design for the use of his time and equipment. However, it was not feasible to do finished designs of every single building in every single style. So these are prototypes and examples of styles. There are some mistakes, and some small design issues. These have already been addressed and will be fixed in the final versions.
Although some of the buildings pictured are not cut into the individual pieces, each building will be in the puzzle piece design.
The material used for these is 1/8” (3mm) Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) which is basically very small pieces of wood chips glued together. When it is lasered, the glue melts and vaporizes and leaves a brown residue on the material. This can be cleaned off with a damp rag and some elbow grease. In addition when you paint over the paint covers it and holds fine, although I do recommend a quick prime.
The glue that was used to put these buildings together is two part 5 minute epoxy. I highly recommend it because it dries quickly but still gives you some time to adjust the parts to the right spots. You can also use wood glue, but you should not use super glue (cyanoacrylate).
All Level 1 buildings are 25mm scale, which means that they will look good for games like Warmachine, 40k, D&D etc. Also, they are each 4 inches wide by 6 inches long and vary in height from 2 – 5 inches.
There is a choice of 12 styles, the six base styles; SteamPunk, Tudor, Gothic, Sci Fi, Brick, and Stone, and then each of those styles will also come in a ruined version.
All Level 2 buildings are also 25mm scale and are basically larger 2 story versions of the Level 1 Buildings. Each is 6 inches wide by 8 inches long, two stories, and vary in height from 4 – 7 inches, and will break down into two complete Level 1 Buildings.
Just like the Level 1 Buildings, the Interiors is accessible by removing the roof or a wall section. And since they are 2 story buildings there is a second floor as well.
Just like the Level 1 Buildings, there is a choice of 12 styles, the six base styles SteamPunk, Tudor, Gothic, Sci Fi, Brick and Stone, with each of them also available in a ruined version.
All Level 3 buildings are 10mm scale, and where pretty much designed with DropZone Commander in mind. It’s a fun game and I wanted some terrain to go with it, so I figured I would share. These buildings are each 3 inches wide by 4 inches long, two stories, and vary in height from 4 – 5 inches.
There is a choice of 6 styles, the 3 base styles, Art Deco, Modern, and Futuristic, and then each of those styles will come in a ruined version.
All Level 4 buildings are 10mm scale and are larger 3 story versions of the Level 3 buildings. The buildings are 4 inches wide by 6 inches long, 3 stories, and vary in height from 6 – 7 inches. They also will break down into two of the level 3 buildings.
Like the Level 3 buildings you have 6 styles to choose from, the 3 base styles, Art Deco, Modern, and Futuristic, and then each of those styles will come in a ruined version.
I’m now offering a custom paint rack, and when I say custom I mean CUSTOM!
The paint rack diagram is a basic design that will hold any size paint pot from the tall thin ones like Reaper or Vallejo, to the short larger ones like Privateer Press or Citadel. In its current configuration it’s about 5 * 12 * 5 inches and holds 22 pots, but…
ADD an additional level to the above rack an increase the capacity to 33 pots for just an extra $5!
Want one that holds 100 pots? No Problem
Want one that hangs on the wall? No Problem
Want one that fit’s in the corner? No Problem
Want one that ???? No Problem
Send me a message and we will work it out!
So how do I add a paint rack to my pledge? Simple, just adjust your pledge amount.
But I’m an international or Canadian backer what about shipping? No problem, just add the amount for the rack. I know shipping makes it so much more expensive for you guys, and since you’re willing help get my project off the ground I’m willing to suck up the extra charge.
Just to be clear, the only people that need to add the extra shipping are the ones that are only getting the paint rack, if you’re getting buildings to it’s covered.
Get your Custom Tournament Trays here, and Again, when I say custom I mean CUSTOM!
DESIGN CHANGE Thanks to a great idea by Chris Sidsworth I've been able to modify the way the tournament tray is put together and made it so the area where you place your figs can be easily removed and replaced with one of another layout! So in short you can have one tray, but be able to use it for different armies / lists!
There will be no change in the pledge level, and you can add new trays for an additional $10 per tray.
You will be able to chose which design that you want, the fixed tray, or removable tray system.
The tournament tray is a basic design that will hold 30 – 50 figs depending on base size, and is about 16 * 10 * 4 inches. The idea here is that YOU design the top (where the figs go) and underneath you have a shelf for rule books and then a tray on the side for your dice, cards, and counters.
Want one that holds only 20 figs? No Problem
Want one that holds 100 figs? No Problem
Want one that holds massive figs, like war wagons, colossus, or big figs with wings and tentacles that takes up lots of space? No Problem
Want a specific layout? No Problem
Want one for square / rectangle based figs? No Problem
Send me a message and we will work it out!

Just to be clear, the only people that need to add the extra shipping are the ones that are only getting just the tray, if you’re getting buildings to it’s covered.
But, I’m a Canadian / International backer and I want both the rack and the tray but no buildings, what about shipping? Just one shipping charge, no need to double it up, I appreciate your support so I’m willing to help where I can.
The money that I receive from you will go to the purchase of a laser, MDF and then shipping them to you. Any money over the $9,000 will be used to purchase an upgraded laser, which means I’ll be able to produce the buildings quicker which in turn lets me get them to you faster. Since you guys are helping get my project off the ground, I’m also offering Kickstarter only costs. The retail prices will be higher and there will be no package deals, so if you see something you like get it now and save!

With my own laser, I will be able to spend more time experimenting with different designs and scales. I plan on expanding on the current line of buildings, offering custom work and design, doing some different scales (next will probably be 15mm for games like Flames of War, and the recently successful Kickstarter Leviathan from DreamForge Games, and also offering a line of deluxe kits that will be similar to architectural models in both detail and complexity.
Here are some additional pictures:http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.403828419671479.89078.385343151520006&type=1&l=b20f38eefe
People have asked if MDF takes paint well and if the detail will still show up. The answer is yes, and yes. Although I build and design very well, I can't say as much for my painting but I went ahead and painted one up any way so you could see. Please understand the following:
1/I really don't paint well.
2/ Since most of the stuff that I do paint is terrain I use craft paints, so the results will be better with better paints.
3/ This building was painted and washed, that's it. Dry-brushing still eludes me. I tried, a couple of time, you can see where.
4/ The detail lines are thin, but as you can see they still pop and would pop even better if I could have dry brushed it. In order to get thicker line, it involves experimentation with the focus on the laser and with time being $ I didn't get a chance to get it like I wanted it. However the final building will have a little bit of thicker detail line which will give it even more depth and detail.
5/ And yeah I missed some spots...
You can see the rest of the sides at the above link to my Facebook album.
Risks and challenges
The only risk to this project is the laser itself. Lasers are delicate machines and don’t always ship well, so if it comes in damage it could take several weeks to get it fixed or replaced which would delay the delivery of the terrain. In the event that this project really overfunds, I will simply order more lasers to meet the demand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
