WILL BE GOING LIVE IN A FEW DAYS- PLEASE CHECK BACK- (a few more rewards to figure out)
WE NEED YOUR HELP.
IN THE MEANTIME WE'D LIKE YOUR FEEDBACK TO MAKE THIS PROJECT A SUCCESS FROM THE KICKSTART.
Let me introduce myself, you haven't met me on the video nor will you hear me sing or play an instrument (believe me you're thankful for that.) I'm Dee Stakenas, the ghost member of Treebo, the one who writes all the tweets and Facebook entries and the one that will put everything together if we're fortunate enough to have you help us get this project off the ground.
OK time to get serious and down to business. The band has been working for over four years to create music and songs that may not necessarily fit into any genre but are filled with passion and beats and melodies that we love and that appeals to more than a stereotyped audience. Tell the truth... how many renditions of Journey, Michael Jackson, Adele, George Benson do you need and were they all good? No offense to these great artists, we love them singing their songs too, but it is within each of our band members to want to create music not just copy it.
Not only that, we're a cultural melting pot of music and generations. A little Bossa Nova here, a little R&B there, a tablespoon of Pop there, a cup of Jazz there add some Hot sauce......Hey I'm getting hungry and I think you get the picture anyway. If you want to hear what I mean you can either get our album on ITunes, pledge $50 and get an album (even better) or sample clips on YouTube
And because our songs are story or beat driven, we think they lend themselves to choreographed dancers. Not us or the guy at the end of our project video but real artists in movement. Listen to "Cafe in Paris" and you can see the woman silhouetted at a cafe table with the moody blue lights around her, as the song progress gets up and does a modern dance thing like "So You Think You Can Dance' and at the end sits happily down again as a hint of new love seems to be at hand. Hey, if "Parachute" can have Derek,....... And you can be an integral part. In fact, one of the "rewards" is helping us search for that new choreographer. We'd like to give someone else in the arts a break if we can. It wouldn't hurt us either to get one.
Ok, we're not just this neighborhood band practicing in the garage, we've got some street credits too. Noel Lorica, our band leader, has been a longtime member of the Recording Academy with several of his songs competing in the Grammy Balloting along with Treebo itself. He has also been honored with several awards including those from the John Lennon Song, the Great American Song Contest, Famecast and the Independent Artist Company. Our singers Cheryl Bell, Katherine Troche and Ziarra Washington are talent winners and have studied music extensively, our drummer, Arturo Afanador was a radio DJ in Colombia and our bass player Julio Perez studied in the the Conservatory in Cuba.
I've got a unique perspective being both on the inside and outside. I've seen them sacrifice time and money, be turned down time after time from venues and radio stations that only want cover songs. But through this all Treebo has managed to create 5 hours of original, fresh and dynamic music. Frankly, it's draining to keep being rejected for gigs because you're not cover. We're not complaining, we love what we do and have played in some great venues and people that listen to the music first. Here we have to give our appreciation to City Place, Downtown at the Gardens, Flamingo Gardens, Sunfest, Norton Museum, Mandel Library, Armory Art, Firehouse Cultural Center & Boca Raton Wine & Food Festival to name a few, who many have had us back several times to play our music.
We only want to control our own destiny, create our own concerts, have venues ask for us. And then hope someday we'll be able to share it with you in your city or concert hall or through the radio. That's a stretch goal of ours along with finishing our second album. And this will be our springboard for other cities, concerts and more music. Got to start somewhere, might as well be here!
OK, I can go on and on but you've probably already tuned out. You're intellect, you know what comes next. Please Pledge (or else I've just wasted a month of looking through film clips and adding drops in my eyes;)..........................THANKS
Risks and challenges
Once we're fully funded, I'm sure there will be hurdles to overcome that we did not anticipated, from not being able to acquire the location or time we'd like to band members getting sick or not being able to join us because their competing on American Idol or going to Broadway (we can dream) or businesswise things costing more once we actually start commissioning services. But over the years, Treebo has become a dynamic, flexible band and we have done road trips on a dime, bartered hotel stays for performances, changed lineups because of illnesses or schedules but have never cancelled or missed a performance. It may mean we have to work harder, change up things to make it work but in the end, we will have a great concert. (if of course we can get this initial funding ;) And we'd like to thank all of you that can help us do that.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
