It’s time for a new kind of men’s magazine.
I founded STAND out of a passion to produce a high-quality men’s magazine that supports our aspirations to become better men. To become better fathers, husbands, neighbors, partners, friends, business owners & employees, and to become better allies with women for equality and justice, and to eliminate violence, harassment, and abuse.
Like other men’s magazines, STAND features stories, photography, poetry, humor, and articles on issues of interest to men, including style, personal finance, health, sports, culture, and more. However, unlike other men’s magazines, the work that appears in STAND is consistent with our mission to support and encourage men to be better men, while avoiding the objectification of women or the damaging masculine stereotypes found in other magazines.
Cheryl LaGuardia, of Magazines for Libraries wrote, “I love STAND magazine. I love everything about it… It’s a beautifully conceived and heroically implemented publication” and I think you’ll agree.
STAND magazine is not for perfect men. It’s for men (young and old) who recognize that growth occurs from failure, when we stand back up, learn from our mistakes, and move forward.
STAND magazine was created for us: men who give a damn about being better men and making a difference (and the women who love them).
STAND has been self-funded so far but we need your support to continue to publish a beautiful magazine, develop great stories, produce our podcast, and create new videos. Thank you for joining us and for taking a stand!
Dwayne D. Hayes
Editor in Chief, STAND magazine

Risks and challenges
The risks are minimal. We’ve already published 8 issues of STAND and have a great team in place to continue to produce a great magazine.
Of course, perhaps tomorrow we’ll wake up to a world at peace, where all men live whole-heartedly while enjoying their full humanity, where men are true allies with women for gender equality and work to end abuse and harassment, and where men’s issues are taken seriously.
Until then, we’ll continue to encourage and support men to be better men through the work of STAND magazine.
