Invisibility, power of flight, control of nature, Samurai stealthiness, mind manipulation. A sample of superpowers mastered by the students of Fostering Art as their alter-ego super people. These characters will be photographed in the self-portraits they make later this month -- and will be featured in the postcard set we are raising funds for here.
Fostering Art is a year-long photography and creative writing program for current and former foster youth in the Bay Area. For over seven years, we've been teaching photographic and writing skills to a population that is often invisible, but not by choice. Using images and text, this program assists young artists in documenting their lives and expressing their vision. Each year, we exhibit the student's projects in a gallery exhibition in San Francisco.
This year, we're planning to print a group of their superhero portraits and one best photograph from their personal projects as postcards and bind them together to be used as the catalog for their upcoming exhibition. They'll also be used in the years to come to recruit new students and spread the word about the program.
But we need your help! Please contribute what you can so that we can make an impressive postcard collection that the students -- and each of you -- can be proud of creating.
The more money we raise, the more postcard sets we can print. If you donate $20 or more, we'll send you a set of the cards. If you donate $100 or more, you'll get an original 8x10 print taken by the students.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS!!
