An Affair Of The Heart

"True fellowship among men must be based on a concern that is universal. It is not the private interests of the individual that create lasting fellowship among men, but rather the goals of humanity. That is why it is said that fellowship with men in the open succeeds." IChing

I just asked the iching about where I'm at with this song and this campaign and I like the answer... Fellowship With Men: It comes from the ancient Chinese book of changes, the IChing. It's answer is certainly about US, the you's and the me's. And rallying the community with the things that we have in common.

This album's intentions, for me, has probably been the most universal of the song cycles I've written. Love and attraction; its a desire for connection, for being seen for who we are and knowing that we are accepted, and cherished, and can give that in return.

I'm not sure I know any better, this side of the writing, having written over 20 songs on the subject, what it is that makes attraction spark and what sorta glues the bonding. There are some great new books on the subject of brain chemistry and love. Utterly fascinating. But the closer I look at the dots in the pointillists art the further it gets from my understanding.

I do know that this thing love is an experience we all share, in all its varied shapes and forms. In its gorgeous crooked turns and it's accidental blessings. If nothing more, we human beings on rock Earth are just trying to find us some.
