LumiLamp is a household plant incubator designed for propagating plants and growing seedlings.
During these initial stages of a plants life they can be sensitive to external factors, one of those being the lack of sunlight.
This incubator is designed with a light mount that can be plugged into an outlet timer.
When the lamp is on, the bulb shines down on the plant providing a sufficient amount of light, especially in the winter when the days are shorter.
Less than a month ago a friend was having difficulty in cultivating and keeping alive a small plant trimming, specially during these short Chicago days. As we were discussing, a great idea popped into my head. As a designer, this shortcoming was an opportunity to design something to assist the growth of plants during the brutal winters in Chicago. The make/100 initiative by Kickstarter is a great way for me to share this idea with the world.
The LumiLamp will be made in a limited batch of 100. The entire product will be 3D printed and shipped ready to assemble. Due to the nature of 3D printing, the lamp's surface will be slightly textured. The center pot of the LumiLamp is removable to ease the transfer of the plant into larger pots when ready. The bottom center pot has drain holes which will drain to the outside of the inner pot. This helps prevent root rot when growing your plants.
- 3D Printed Lamp using Pure White PLA on the Inbox3D printer and Makerbot Replicator Z18
- Includes a 5W Growstar Led Grow Light Bulb
- Vintage Screw Metal Light Socket (Red Copper) and about 4 feet of cord
Each LumiLamp will be 3D Printed using the Inbox3D Printer and the Makerbot Z18. Both printers are most capable of doing large-scale printing.
The LumiLamp will be assembled at my favorite creative space in the Chicago, Lost Arts.
Risks and challenges
The LumiLamp is entirely 3D printed. 3D printing is a long process and can take upwards of 15 hours to print each lamp. If this project is funded I will ship them out in order of purchase.
*Please note that every lamp will be textured due to the nature of 3D printing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
