About this project
Moonstone is a whimsical fantasy skirmish game for 2-4 players, which sees you leading fairy-tale inspired characters across the dark lands in search of precious Moonstones. Players compete to collect as many stones as possible before the breaking of the dawn, with bloody combat an almost inevitable outcome with such a prize in sight.
Following on from the tremendous success of our Firespitter Pilot Kickstarter, this campaign now sets out to launch the full game, but that can only be made possible with your help and pledges.
The game uses beautifully sculpted 32mm scale miniatures. With games only needing 3-6 models per player, you can be up and running with minimal expense and time spent at the painting desk. Turns are played out with alternating model activations between you and the other players, so it is never a long wait before you are back in the action making tactical, insightful, and often hilarious decisions.
Moonstone makes use of a number of shared custom card decks which uses a combination of bluffing and zero-sum techniques like you would usually find in games of poker and rock-paper-scissors, where usually it is your ability to read the opponent rather than luck of the draw which will win you the game.
Both the miniatures and rules have been designed by us at Goblin King Games. We are a small team of tabletop gaming enthusiasts with a combined experience of over forty years in the genre where we have been creating new games for our own enjoyment for at least 15 years. Moonstone is the first game we have felt is truly deserving of a big investment to push it out of our small circle and into the wider world.
Update: Sculpt complete!
Here are some examples of the sculpts created for us so far by Tom Lishman and Raul Tavares. All of these are included in the Starter Set pledge.
If you're curious about the Moonstone gameplay then we have good news for you! The Beta rules, along with paper standees, stat cards and custom card decks are free to download and you can get them, right now, right here: https://moonstonethegame.com/downloads/

Isn't it frustrating when a project does so well and unlocks so many stretch goals that the whole project takes ages to deliver? Well don't worry – we have a plan! We will be running two postage waves. Wave 1 will be the essential items you need to get playing and will ship in the Summer of 2017 while Wave 2 will be any and all of the lovely things we unlock through stretch goals, which we aim to ship in time for Christmas.
Important: If your order contains items from both Wave 1 and 2 then we recommend adding the 'Split Postage' Add-on to your order to cover the additional costs of making two shipments. If you don't add this option then we will post your entire order in one go during Wave 2.
Our full end-to-end production process has been thoroughly tested via the Firespitter campaign which ran, by-and-large extremely smoothly! One reason for this is that 90% of our supply chain is UK based and we are happy to pay a little more in production costs in order to be able to pick up the phone and speak directly with a supplier to resolve any issues quickly.

Risks and challenges
Any Kickstarter project entails a degree of risk in the unknown and this is precisely why we first ran our pilot campaign (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1138228733/firespitter-miniature-from-moonstone-fantasy-skirm…) before attempting a campaign of this size. We wanted to fully experience the end-to-end production and fulfilment process and we are very pleased to say that that previous campaign ran on time, on budget and to a very high standard giving us some confidence in our abilities to deliver exactly the same again. However, we are by no means complacent!
We will maintain the same levels of openness and transparency that we displayed during our previous campaign. If, -god forbid-, anything should go wrong during the production cycle, you will know about it and the reasons why, and we will do everything in our power to make it right. As an up and coming company in the tabletop gaming space, our reputation means everything to us - far, far more than making a quick buck! That said we have allowed contingency in our project time estimates to accommodate the occasion hiccups that can occur during any manufacturing process and believe our projected delivery dates are fully achievable!
We will be using exactly the same supply chain once again but with some significant upgrades to deal with the higher quantities expected this time around:
Hysterical Games, who do our casting, have taken on a new full-time caster and a new metal mould contractor as well as securing a much larger premises and significant investments in new machinery.
We will also be working with a highly experienced retail partner in the form of Firestorm Games to manage our Warehousing, Packing, Shipping and first line Customer Support this time around. Firestorm Games are one of the largest online wargames retailers in the UK with a fantastic reputation built up over many year and are easily capable of packing and dispatching hundreds of orders daily.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
