About this project
Friend! Benefactor! Patron of the arts! Your refined palate and good taste has brought you here, to The Jolly Rogers. With your help, good sponsor, we propose to create a new album which will continue The Jolly Rogers' tradition of producing the finest maritime music ever recorded by a band living in the landlocked Midwest! Such challenges are NOTHING to us! Child's play! Child's play, we tell you!
The new CD will be recorded over three weekends starting in late June and continuing into early July at Chapman Recording in Lenexa, KS. It will feature predominately all new, original music with a couple traditional and cover songs thrown in for good measure. Also featured on the album will be the incredible Bounding Main, an excellent maritime group from Chicago whose presence will ensure that the album will actually be worth it. After recording, mixing and mastering are complete we will ship the whole thing off to Oasis CD, the home of Jolly Rogers duplication since 2003. The target date for release is September 1, 2012!
ALL contributions above $15 will be rewarded with a copy of the CD, so now's your chance to pre-order your copy and possibly get some additional swag in the process!
Currently, we're looking at Monday, October 8 as the date that we will set aside for our evening of glorious gluttony. Keep in mind that it is ONE dinner invitation per donation!
An over-abundance of good friends and fatty carbs - what else does one need?
Nothing. The answer to that last one is "nothing."
Figured that one out, did you? Oh, well.
Kickstarter already has the infrastructure for this one all figured out, true believers! If the project ends successfully, we will be able to contact you through Kickstarter to get any and all information that we need in order to make sure you get your reward!
I'M YOUR BIGGEST FAN! I just donated the $500 I was supposed to use to get an appendectomy, so when's our day in the studio?
No, we're YOUR biggest fan. We'll try to accommodate people's schedules as best we can, but it will most likely be one of the first two weekends of July.
Short answer: an absolute BLAST!
Not-as-short-answer: we'll be in touch to set up a time! You'll just be singing on the choruses of the Mingulay Boat Song, which you've probably already done a million times if you've been out at Faire with us. Essentially, you'll have no more than 20 or 30 minutes to get your part recorded, which we will schedule with you ahead of time. We're not trying to get rid of you, trust me! A lot of work goes into making an album and we want to make sure that we have plenty of time for everything (and everyone) else as well. Most likely, it will be sometime in the first two weekends of July.
While the idea of a tailgating party at the studio does have its merits, the answer (sadly) has to be 'no'. One guest per contribution, please.
Ultimately, it all comes down to three things: first, there's only so much space in the studio to be had and The Jolly Rogers already take up a lot of room (we like to lie around a lot). Second, while we are DEFINITELY all about having fun in the studio, it's also about getting work done and having a potentially undefined number of people show up wouldn't work with that. Lastly, we don't want to overstay our welcome at the studio. They don't mind guests, but it is their building. If it gets out of hand, they have the right to deny entrance to anyone they choose and we don't want to ruffle any feathers - not theirs, and certainly not contributors that suddenly find themselves being turned away at the door.
So, we need to limit who comes in for the good of everyone. Sorry for any inconvenience, but it'll be best in the long run, we promise!
