Originally presented to authors in the Gen Con Writers Symposium as a series of adventures in front of a live audience, Tales and Tomes from the Forbidden Library is a fully compatible D&D 5E adventure for character levels 1-3, written by speculative fiction author Gregory A. Wilson. The adventure leads characters into the Eastern Wing of Hearthglow Academy's Library- where they will discover why it has been forbidden to students and teachers for twenty years.
But Tales and Tomes is not only a three part adventure which can be placed in any 5E compatible setting; it is also a sourcebook, with prominent SFF authors and tabletop gaming professionals lending their talents to describe various books which can be found within the library - from grimoires of spells to weaponry manuals, from atlases of vanished lands to bestiaries cataloging legendary fauna, to fragments of lore, poetry, and art - and everything in between.
Published by Alligator Alley Entertainment, Ennie-nominated publisher of Witch Hunter 2nd Edition and Esper Genesis, and featuring beautiful cover art by Sarah Dahlinger in both high quality print and PDF editions, Tales and Tomes from the Forbidden Library brings together mysterious creatures, a vibrant setting, and a compelling story into an adventure which DMs will love to run and players will love to play - and a sourcebook which will help enhance many future adventures as well. Jump on board with us and pledge today - then, please spread the word. And thanks!
Stretch Goal Explanations
100 Backers: Full Color Throughout: We'll use the full 4-color printing process for the entire book. There may still be some art pieces that are sketches, monochrome, sepia tone, or line art, but every page will be in color.
200 Backers: Hardcover: Every physical copy of the book will be hard case bound. The exact type of binding (Smyth sewn is what we're hoping for) will depend on the final total, and our Production Manager's decision on what we can afford.
300 Backers: High Res, Digital Maps: The maps used in the adventure will be sent to backers pledging at the $15 and up tiers as a high-res pdf. These could be printed out, or cast to a screen if you're using a tv table or virtual tabletop.
400 Backers: Side Quests & Secrets PDF: Backers pledging at the $15 and up tiers will receive a companion PDF containing additional adventuring material set in the library, along with background and history for the library itself, and those who work in and use it.
500 Backers: Hearthglow Adventurers Academy Map PDF: Backers pledging at the $15 and up tiers will receive a high res PDF map, suitable for print, illustrating the grounds and buildings of the campus of Hearthglow Adventurers Academy.
600 Backers: Deluxe Cover and Bookmark: The production values of the physical books will be improved to make it nicer, and we will include a bookmark. Just how deluxe it will be will depend on how we finish. This upgrade will apply to every physical copy of the book, and is included at every pledge level that has a physical copy.
750 backers: Curse of the Demon Stone revised PDF: Curse of the Demon Stone, a 5E adventure by Rich Lescouflair and Alligator Alley Entertainment's first original publication (from 2015), will be revised to a new edition with additional material and updated graphics! Every backer pledging at $15 and up will receive the PDF!
ADDED: Hearthglow Adventurers Academy will appear in Rich's Demon Stone setting, and featured, in small part, in this adventure! The world of the Demon Stone setting will not be the official or exclusive home for Hearthglow Academy, because it is designed to be incorporated into any fantasy setting, but its inclusion here will be an example of how it could be done!
Pledge Total Goals:
$10K: 5+ Additional Contributors: At least 5 more contributors will be added to the contributors list.
$12K: Digital Conversion Files for Roll20: We'll have conversion files created for Roll20, and when they are completed (we don't have a time table on this yet), we'll provide a link to where they can be downloaded.
$15K: Digital Conversion Files for Fantasy Grounds: We'll have a Fantasy Grounds conversion created, and provide a link to it from an update here once it's done. We don't have an exact timetable on that yet, and Fantasy Grounds will be charging for it. We'll also reveal the $18K Mystery Goal.
$16,500: Pre-Gens for Every PHB Class, with Back Stories: We will be adding to the selection of pre-generated characters that will come with the adventure, so that every playable class in the 5E PHB is represented.
$18K: Hearthglow Adventurers Academy Primer PDF: Author Gregory A. Wilson will write an overview of Hearthglow Adventurers Academy, explaining and describing the school, including ways it could be incorporated into any large urban setting, campaign ideas, adventure hooks, and more!
$20K: Short Story by Author Gregory A. Wilson: Greg will write a short story-length (or maybe even a novelette?) bit of fiction set in Hearthglow Adventurers Academy, and in the library. This will be a pdf sent to backers pledging at $15 and above tiers. We don't have a time table, but it will most certainly be after the books go out, and maybe closer to the end of 2019.
1,000 Backers: Librarians Portrait Gallery Composite PDF: If we should somehow reach 1,000 Backers by the end of this fundraising campaign, we will commission a composite image featuring portraits of the Librarians of Hearthglow Adventurers Academy, 40 portraits in all, on one poster. It's our hope to be able to do something special with this, but we can't make any specific promises, or say what it is right now. A high-res PDF of this composite image, in easy to frame dimensions, will be sent to every backer pledging at $15 and above, and it will be sent in August .
Shipping: Actual shipping costs will be calculated in our post-campaign, and backers will be able to pay for shipping in BackerKit. Shipments inside the US will be handled via our fulfillment partner, Studio 2 Publishing. We will be partnering with another company for international shipments. International freight is expensive, but we will work to keep your costs as low as we can.
Retailers: Alligator Alley Entertainment strives to make our crowd-funding campaigns as brick and mortar retailer-friendly as possible. Retailer backers will be invoiced when the product is ready to ship, and will have a 30-day window of exclusivity before we ship to distribution. Stores backing this campaign may opt to be listed as a pick up location for any backers local to them. Backers who pick up their products at a backing store will have their shipping costs waived.
