About this project
I have written a book, Wake Me When It's Over, a memoir about growing up in Brooklyn in the 1960s, becoming a musician and songwriter, and ultimately finding my niche as the co-owner of three rock nightclubs, Sanctuary (1981-1986), Mission (1988-1993), and Luna Lounge (1995-2008).
Sanctuary was punk, Mission was an East Village bar where Joey Ramone, The Jesus And Mary Chain, The Psychedelic Furs, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, and other bands would party together among friends.
Luna Lounge was a small neighborhood Lower East Side bar and live music venue in NYC which featured the first shows from some awesome bands that have gone on to be some of the world's most important and successful music artists. Luna was the room were The Strokes first performed, where Interpol formed and played their first shows, and where The National, Longwave, stellastarr*, The Bravery, and many other bands got their start. Also, it's the place where Elliott Smith wrote the album XO and first performed those songs for folks who just happened to be at the bar.
Luna was also where alternative comedians Marc Marin, Louis C.K., Lewis Black, and others worked out their craft as part of the Eating It Monday night comedy series.
I am self publishing the book and would like to raise money for promoting my story with a website for the book, for advertising on appropriate internet music oriented web sites, and for seventy five promotional hard copies for interested reviewers at music and pop culture magazines such as Rolling Stone, Spin, New Music Express, and for internet blogs.
The book will also be available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble on line, and other book selling websites where it can also be advertised. The 365 page book is already written, edited, and the cover design rocks! You can read some of it here on my blog http://wakeme.net.
Also, if I reach my goal, I might like to retire to a villa in France. But, only if I reach my goal. You can come by. Bring your own bottle. I'll have ice. Thanks.
