Trenches Of War
Trenches of War is a World War I-inspired strategy game. Battle through the Alps by spawning units and capturing trenches, barracks, and factories. Cross rivers that rise when it rains. Use or destroy bridges and cornfields that may aid or deter your maneuvers.
We want to bring Trenches of War to PC, Mac, and Linux. In this port we plan to improve the graphics of the game, add new features, and provide multiplayer game modes. We are launching this campaign alongside a Steam Greenlight campaign and hope to see our game on that platform.
In our PC port we plan to include numerous graphical improvements. These include a day/night cycle, a light engine similar to what we use in our game Harvested, realistic water, as well as improved artwork, sound effects, and music.
This update will bring several new features as well. The most exciting of these is a multiplayer mode which will allow you to play against your friends online. Multiplayer mode will include handicap settings to compensate for varying skill levels. We've had this feature requested many times by our players and would love to make it a reality. We will also add features to take advantage of the larger screen, such as the ability to zoom out and see more of the battlefield.
We will not be abandoning our mobile version. This Kickstarter campaign supports additional updates for our mobile release and ensures we can continue to provide updates for the foreseeable future. We hope to bring many of the PC port features to mobile as well.
Last September, we released Trenches of War for Android. In the time since its release we've accumulated over 130,000 downloads and maintained monthly updates. We've expanded to iOS. Updates have brought new missions (we launched with 8 - now we have 75 and are still adding more), new battlefield mechanics, additional units (we launched with 4, now have 8), and overhauls of existing systems. We read every review and our players have recognized our dedication to improving the game and our willingness to listen to their input.
$750 - Additional Objective Types - We will bring additional game modes, such as time limit and king of the hill, to the campaign and multiplayer.
$1,000 - Procedural Level Generation - Make multiplayer maps more interesting with procedurally generated levels
$1,500 - Map Editor - We will include a map editor to allow you to play your own levels against the computer or your friends
Risks and challenges
We are aware that this is not a Steam Greenlit game - should Greenlight fail, we will distribute it through alternative distribution sites, such as itch.io.
As we develop this game we are also working on a much larger project, Harvested, while also experimenting with other ideas. We have always been working on multiple projects simultaneously. We know how to balance our time and meet deadlines - for Trenches of War, we have had major feature updates every month since December, barring one month when we focused on an iOS release.
