About

About 5000 years ago a common ancestor separated into 3 groups. One headed west and was never heard from again. The next one went north and settled on the peninsula there. They would later become the Kashat. The last went south and went on to become the Mishean empire.

A cataclysmic event tore the continent apart. The northern peninsula became an island and isolated the Kashat from the Mishean. They would have no contact with each other again for nearly 5000 years.

Regular Mishean citizens don't stand a chance during this invasion. There is something special about you which is why you are the only one who can fight back. Until this fateful day you have been living as a hermit in the mountains above a village, when one morning you hear screams from the village and investigate.

The reality of this historical event is rather gruesome. By the time you start the game, a large portion of your people are already annihilated. If depicted accurately, the streets would be covered in bodies. To reduce the violence, enemies disappear instantly upon death and their blood is replaced with colorful confetti. The first game is meant to be more silly and fun while the sequel will be more serious and fill in all the details of why the war was started.

The most common Kashat enemy is a Kit. Two are shown here, but there are more varieties. The larger swarms will be led by more sophisticated Kashat which stand upright, are more agile, and fight ferociously. There are also brutes with powerful sharp weapons who are rare but very difficult to defeat.

This game is all about surviving and saving your country. The enemy has made no attempts to negotiate, they have a raging hatred towards you and won't stop until all of your people are gone. Don't let their appearance fool you. They will destroy everything that you hold dear in the most adorable way possible.

We have pledged to give 5% back to the Kickstarter community with kicking it forward! http://www.kickingitforward.org

Gameplay:

You play in first person view and are armed with several effective weapons.

Single-Shot: Standard pistol that shoots one round at a time, has a small ammo clip.

Wide-Shot: This is a shotgun type of weapon that spreads out. Medium ammo clip.

Rapid-Shot: This rifle is the best for keeping a safe distance. Rapid rate of fire and large ammo clip.

Sword: The most fun. Send smaller enemies flying in hilarious ways before they explode from the damage. Never runs out of ammo.

It's not all just mindless shooting, some levels won't be beatable without using strategy. The cities are larger than the villages and provide many more paths to take. Which way you approach the enemy will affect the outcome of battle. The farther you progress, the more organized and intelligent the enemy forces are. You will have to use parts of the environment to wipe out large groups at once. This can include collapsing part of a building in a tight alleyway to crush a large group.

Hundreds of ideas have been drawn and put into writing. I need your help to bring them into our world. (This is all the work done for this universe, not all of it is featured in the first game)

A breakdown of required tasks:

Art:

  • Concept sketching
  • 3D asset creation (props, dynamic objects, weapons)
  • 3D environment creation (buildings/static meshes)
  • Terrain art (including trees, bushes, grass, skybox
  • Graphical user interface design
  • Texture painting and UV Mapping
  • Particle effects

Programming:

  • User interface ( menu and items interaction)
  • Character control
  • Weapon management

Risks and challenges

Being on kickstarter already gets rid of one important risk. The risk of no one liking my game. The wonderful thing about crowd-funding is that by being fully funded, I know for sure that there are fans. If no one wants to play this game, then there wont be any funding.

There is always the risk of the game not getting done on time or running out of funds. I made sure not to ask for too little, as scary as it is to ask for more and risk not getting it. I'd rather not raise the necessary funds and not make the game than raise, say 30K, and not be able to complete the project, thereby wasting your money. I know what work I need done and I intend to pay a fair wage. What I am asking is enough for a bare minimum game but there can be many improvements if I get more funding.
As far as meeting the deadline: I've kept track of how fast it takes myself to finish certain tasks, and I've made sure not to make the game bigger than it has to be. Limiting it to only 5 levels is an example of that.

Finding reliable workers is also very hard. I've seen project leaders make mistakes like this and I've learned from them. The key is to have a clear idea of what I am hiring for, and not to cheap out by getting an inexperienced worker.
