We all know that women’s clothing doesn’t fit – our bodies, our style, our standards - but this is true of even the simplest garment: the t-shirt.
We knew weren't the only ones struggling with t-shirts, so we asked our customers and friends to share their t-shirt frustrations. And... oh boy, this is just a short list of what we heard:
- Too short
- Too sheer
- Too tight
- Too boxy
- Too long
- Sleeves make my arms look fat
- Pulls around my bust
- Pulls around my hips
A shirt that might be too short and fitted on one woman might be too long and boxy on another. A v-neck might be flattering on you, but your best friend prefers a scoop neck. Why? Because our bodies are super diverse.
The craziest part is that t-shirts are a wardrobe staple, so we're constantly on the lookout for a solid tee, trying new brands that sound promising and almost always ending up disappointed (and wearing mediocre t-shirts).
Like we did with our Lady Blouse project last year, we came to the conclusion: There has to be a better way.
We realized that the best possible t-shirt is one that reflects your unique body and style preferences.
When we took on this design challenge at the beginning of the year, we used customer surveys and market research to start from scratch designing a t-shirt that could be worn day in and day out, dressed up or down. And then we realized that the person who should design your t-shirt is... you.
You choose the details you want: Your favorite neckline. The best sleeve length for you. And then we use our unique fit system, based on your height, weight, build, muscle mass, and fit issues, to create the t-shirt you need. Your perfect Staple Tee.
Here's why we need your help: we need to measure, and research women of all shapes and sizes to ensure we master fit. Then we need to ensure that we have the right ingredients - the perfect knit fabrics and top of the line sewing equipment - to whip up the Staple Tees. Fabric counts for a lot, which you know if you’ve ever struggled to conceal a bra under an overly sheer white t-shirt. Our fabric needs to drape beautifully and be the perfect weight – not too heavy and not too sheer.
How It Works
It's simple, really. Your vision, our know-how, and a little bit of pixie dust!
1. Customize: Choose your color, neckline, sleeve length, and hem length.
2. Find your Fit: Fill out our fit quiz instead of choosing a size.
3. We cut and sew: We aim to manufacture and fulfill all orders by Spring.
4. The Result: Go out and conquer the world!
We do the heavy lifting, you do the fun part: designing your Staple Tee.
Who is raising the bar on women's clothes?
We're Kit, and we were born out of a simple belief: clothes should work with your body, not against it. We marry the personal service and amazing fit of an old-school dressmaker with the convenience of e-commerce.
What Makes Kit Different?
Traditional sizing systems are arbitrary. Rather than pigeonhole our customers into a size, Kit bases fit on each individual customer's actual body.
Our garments are made to be worn time and time again, and our staff field tests each garment, wearing it in a variety of settings and making sure that each component is perfect.
Fabric quality has gone downhill fast. We work with the finest European, American and Asian textile mills to find beautiful, durable fabrics that are easy to wear and easy to care for.
Our garments are designed to become staples of your wardrobe, not trendy pieces to be worn once before they fall apart. Which is why our designs are always available and never sold-out.
We are huge believers in customer service, so we've made getting in touch as easy and accessible as possible. Don't believe us? Just drop us a line.

Risks and challenges
Our team is comprised of problem solvers. And we've been at this for a while now. We've measured hundreds of women, developed a unique understanding of how are bodies are different, and know how those variations affect fit. We work closely with a skilled pattern maker to create digital patterns as a baseline for all of our styles. We have tested and sampled countless fabrics to find the best quality, easiest to care for fabrics.
We are perfectionists! We've done our homework - but there are always risks. We have in house manufacturing that will allow us to make and ship staple tees within our timeline.
But, if the project gets zillions of backers (a good problem to have), we might need to bring on additional sewing staff. We've thought through what this might entail, because we like over-thinking problems before they happen. There is also a chance that a textile supplier takes more time to ship the fabrics we need. That's why we work with an American mill; even if it does take them a bit longer to mill the fabric, shipping is faster and we won't have to worry about customs delays.
Regardless of what challenges lay ahead, we are 100% committed to keeping our backers in the loop. Amazing customer service is built on really good communication. We'll make sure that everyone knows exactly how any unforeseen challenges affect reward fulfillment.Näheres zur Rechenschaftspflicht auf Kickstarter
