About this project
The Trofeo Wallet is made of an extremely high quality material that meets The Association for Contract Textiles (ACT) specifications for heavy-duty use. This particular version is made "with a unique blend of recycled fibers to produce the sophisticated look of heathered fabric and wool flannels. The result is increased softness, durability and performance." This stuff is legit.
- Durability: 75,000 double rubs (Wyzenbeek durability test)
- Fabric Strength: exceeds industry standards
- Pilling Resistance: exceeds industry standards
- Seam Strength: exceeds industry standards
- Colorfastness: exceeds industry standards
Due to its high performance, this type of textile is used as the seating and interior material in the rarest versions of the rarest sports cars, including the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Stradale, and the Maserati Gran Turismo MC Stradale.
This performance isn't cheap, as you can imagine. To give context, a yard of cotton can cost $3.00. A yard of high quality silk can cost $28. The material we're using, however, costs $120.00 per yard.
The Trofeo Design team has designed, and prototyped the Trofeo Wallet. Once production begins, we will procure materials and sew the wallets. (If the scale gets out of hand, we have a very good local textiles manufacturer to who who will cut and sew the wallets.) The elastic strips are sewn into the middle section first, then the wallet is folded and the side seams are sewn. Then we move to quality control, packaging, and shipping.
Packaging includes inserting a custom made card into each wallet, packaging it with our materials, and finally packaging for the shipping itself.
Back in November of 2012, we spent a great deal of time finding the right material for this wallet. We also prototyped multiple designs to find the best convergence of simplicity, aesthetic appeal, and durability. We then put the wallet under a full year of testing and today are happy with the results.
The material we're using is extremely expensive. We cannot make this without your support.
Risks and challenges
We've secured relationships with materials suppliers who assure us that they can fill very large orders should we need them. If, however, this project is wildly successful, we may experience delays in production. Though our manufacturer has a large production capacity, it is not unlimited and could be overrun if the project succeeds far beyond our expectations.
Space for storage and packaging / fulfillment may also become problematic should the project become successful far beyond our expectations, however we can gain access to additional facilities on the same block as our office if needed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
