Thank you so much for visiting our Kickstarter Page!!
My name is Taylor Donofrio, Artistic Director of Donofrio Dance Company, a Brooklyn based Modern dance company. We are raising a goal of $7,000 in order to help us finish and perform our first evening length work this October. We hope you can help us get there!
We are in the final stage of our work, RAM, that has been in creation for the past 8 months. With five dancers, a composer and a filmmaker, we are making this piece of work come to reality at the Center For Performance Research in Brooklyn where we will be premiering it!
WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?
Performing our first evening length work, is also our first ever self produced work....which means we have to pay for everything! We will be paying for the beautiful space at Center for Performance Research as well as the talented professional dancers in the company and the wonderful collaborators. Composer, Ryan Campos has created an amazing score and the talented Ace Salisbury has helped in creating beautiful short films to be projected through out the piece. We will be using the new technology of pico projectors, a mobile projector, that will be attached to each dancer, projecting their inner memories.
OUR COSTS INCLUDE:
- Compensation for 5 professional dancers
- Compensation for Composer Ryan Campos
- Compensation for Filmmaker Ace Salisbury to make 5 short films
- Rental of performance space
- Studio space for our rehearsals leading up to performance
- 5 Pico Projectors to showcase the memory films

ABOUT THE WORK
RAM is a piece that explores how what we remember and what we think we remember can help us gain a deeper understanding about who we are. This work has become a manifestation of physical responses to memory and the exploration on how attached or detached we are to our own memory.
The piece connects to who I am as an artist as it explores a part of my identity that I am constantly intrigued by in both an emotional capacity and physical capacity.
Why do some of our memories stand out more than others? Are the majority of our memories inaccurate or false? Why do we lose some of our memories? And is there a way to cause certain memories stay with us?
As a company we have explored theses questions with what I call, "Memory Experiments", where we use memory recall to inform each dancers' movement instincts and physical actions.
Following these exercises, we hold full discussions and each dancer uses a personal journal to log what memories and movements surfaced in each experiment. As the process has developed, each of the five dancer's memories were used as inspiration for the composition of the piece.
A BIG STEP
This work is a huge step for us as a company both in its technical capacity and its collaborative qualities.
It has furthered our experience in how we can support dance expression with different mediums. This work is also our first evening length work, which is a step for us that is vital for our growth and development as an emerging company in New York City.
We thank you in advance for your support!! You are helping us make this vision a reality and we are so grateful!
We want to share what we have experienced and explored about our own memories with audiences everywhere...starting with you!
Oct 18th and 19th at 7:30pm at CPR (Center for Performance Research)

Risks and challenges
As this project uses a strong technological component, we will have to work diligently in order to make sure the technology can work in the strongest capacity possible. Pico Projectors have yet to be used with movement, so we are taking on the challenge to modify them to attach to our bodies as well as move with them in a safe and secure way.
Over the past 8 months, we have worked with different pico projectors and explored moving with them, honing our own skill and the ability to create this work in a way that can be executed to its fullest potential. With the support of our two amazing collaborators as well as our technical crew, we feel confidence in this vision and that we can overcome our challenges!
