The Swansea Comics Collective is a not for profit group of artists and writers based in Swansea. The SCC is currently made up of writers Adam Wilmot and Ricky Webber and artists Pete 'This Man, This Pete' Taylor and Mark 'Son of Ken' Hughes. Our Flagship comic is Copperopolis. Set in a fictionalised version of our hometown; Copperopolis is a city populated with characters, settings and locations from the Collective's shared consciousness. Copperopolis is an all ages comic that incorporates themes from comic book genres such as Fantasy, Pulp, and Superheroes.
In a universe brimming with cosmic energy, on a planet filled with mystery, Copperopolis is a city of infinite possibilities. Out in the bay of Copperopolis, under a giant copper tower the Red Dragon and Merlyn slumber; remnants of a battle torn from reality. When Vortigen, their old enemy reappears, ready for a rematch, the two dreamers awake, releasing their stored cosmic dragon energy through all time and space, empowering the heroes needed to protect the city from the coming storm. The release of energy plunges the city into darkness and, as chaos rages, we follow our new heroes and villains as they fight across Copperopolis. Alliances are forged and rivalries are formed as our characters face their first big test.
Following on from the city wide riots of the previous instalments, issue three sees our heroes coping with the power suddenly thrust upon them. With evil lurking on the horizon, our band of misfits need to be ready to face the looming threat, and what better way to get to know your new allies than with a little team building exercise. The X-Men might play baseball, the Justice League favour their combat drills, but what could be more British than attending a pub quiz on Copperopolis' notorious Wind Street.
As we are a not-for-profit group, we secure funding wherever we can find it. We all have day jobs, with bills to pay and mouths to feed etc., so self-funding has been nigh on impossible. About nine years ago now, back in the days before Copperopolis, when we were first starting out, we actually used to collect our spare change in a little ‘subs box’. After a little while, we had scraped together enough to print our first little ashcan comic, a small preview of our talent, and a statement of future intent.
As our profile has grown, we have taken on community projects in and around the Swansea area to help fund our efforts to produce our work. Projects such as the one held in the Swansea Museum to commemorate Swansea’s experiences during the Second World War. We focused on such events as the Three Nights Blitz in 1942; producing short strips to highlight the perils, the drama and heartbreak of those notorious years. We can’t always depend on projects such as these to fund us, and so we have come to Kickstarter. We are as passionate about our work creating comics as we always have been, and Kickstarter is a community of passionate, like-minded people. With your help we want to get issue 3 of Copperopolis printed, and give something back to our pledges in return.

Risks and challenges
Risks and Rewards?
The risk to our pledges is small. We aren’t asking for donations to hire writers or artists, and we aren’t looking to get you to pay for our time off from work either (although that would be great.) Issue 3 is all but complete; all we require is help with the printing costs.
The reward for our pledges? You get to be involved with something that means a lot to us and in getting involved, hopefully a lot to you too. Not to mention that, in return, we will offer you ‘stuff and things’ as laid out in our pledge tiers. I mean who doesn’t want a thank you letter from two fictional characters? Or have a cameo in a comic book?
The reward of doing this Kickstarter, for us? We want to tell our tales, and with your help, we get to continue to do so. I guess we also may find a few new fans and followers in the process!
