The tone and direction of our politics and country governing policies are stratified to a point where it seems, we vote, but big money interests rule. And rarely in our favor.
We, the interested and involved American public can change that to our benefit.
WeControlCongress.us [ WCC for short ] is a website [http://www.wecontrolcongress.us/ ]. It's an app and a tool for organizing our civic actions to function on our behalf. WCC downloads weekly and presents to all citizens the legislation in both congressional chambers, in committee or awaiting floor votes. To allow for an informed vote, there is enough information between the bill summary, the govtrack.us link to the actual text and our special features:
I .“Citizen Summary” (citizens/groups will read then generate a 3 pg. cliff-note style brief (especially noting riders & amendments) plus a non-binding quiz).
II. The “Congressional Invite” (lets an elected member present a small brief for clarity or cause).
We now control a yes or no vote on how we want our elected officials to cast votes on the issue. Aggregate metrics matter.
These citizen votes (we call them C-CLIP, Citizens Congressional Interest Point) use the WCC algorithm to generate a bar-code vote-key that can be mailed to our elected reps and accounted for thru the WCC bar-code scanner reading module (this is our "skin in the game" impact). No personal citizen information is ever revealed. Besides the cost of postage, it's free! Consider the message this mass of mail delivers. The metrics can also be viewed directly online.
This constituency services tool makes it easier for us, the managing citizens and US public, to inform and even demand greater action from those we elect to serve us. It makes for more accountability from our elected officials with a host of our vote and their chamber vote metrics. Not to mention it becomes a great tracking tool for re-election qualifications -- Do they listen to us! Perhaps one day they may just rely on "WCC-metrics" to cast chamber votes and make our laws.
An additional feature of aide for us is the C-CAP module, Citizens Congressional Action Point. This allows a citizen/group to author a piece of potential legislation (in correct format and use of the US. Code where applicable) that we will ferry to the committee process once pre-vote user metrics (much like the White House petition model) confirms enough national interest.
Extra citizen supports are available as a Citizen Civics module that links to a variety of official and informational declarations about our government/legislative processes (and there's a friendly little test to see what we know or remember about the USA), and the Franklin Force, a base framework for a citizens driven new political party. Our design and plan of operations is pretty simple, engage and empower the average citizen with an eye on improving our government and how it functions.
This Kickstarter fund will help us:
1. Add additional personnel for required version 1 functionality and enhancements to the user experience.
2. Secure administrative supports for non-code content and data compilation for the user experience.
3. Support marketing to Congressional members and media to inform them that the digital element to our citizens-empowered democracy is here.
For ongoing operations, we will seek subscription/donations for organizing the citizen summary teams, site maintenance/upkeep, and state/large county module development in future versions.
Risks and challenges
By trade and skill-set I'm an experienced desktop applications developer.
This is my first, but surely not last, web app. Enormous progress has been made in the database, and much of the user interface. There is, however, a nuance around some elements (the site build and aspects of the political process) that require expertise above and beyond my own currently. The UAT version is functional but NOT ready for the world. These challenges will be met by bringing onto the team skillful developers and knowledgeable political science personnel, and admin support.
This is not just an app, it's a movement. A neutral all-citizens invited new era of democracy for the USA.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
