Thank you everyone for all your pledges so far. We are truly humbled by the overwhelming support we have received for our film. This £15,000 that you have helped us to raise will cover the raw materials for our set and pay for camera and lighting hire. Woo! We can now start to bring our vision to life!

Our overall budget is actually higher and we need more money to see us through production and to give us a head start on post (editing, sound, grading, mastering and festivals) so everyone please keep pledging. And to any potential investors out there, your interest is very much still welcome.

Sincerely, thank you from Leo & Jonny and all the team at 'Hear the Doors'.

DISCLAIMER: See our moodboard come to life! THIS IS NOT A TRAILER. Clips taken from 'Eraserhead', 'The Silence', '2001: A Space Odyssey', 'Ivan's Childhood' and 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'. Music taken from Brian Eno's 'Thursday Afternoon'. Edited by Leonora & Jonathan Moore and Peter Nance.

  • What if our fundamental assumptions from the beginning of time have been wrong?
  • How would a world without 'GOD' be any different?
  • Is there a separate objective reality outside of our minds?

Hey everybody! We are Leonora Moore and Jonathan Moore, sister and brother duo from Cheshire, UK. Leonora's debut directorial feature won 'Best Feature Film' at 'The UK Film Festival' in 2011. Now we're excitedly gearing up for our first directorial feature-film collaboration 'Hear The Doors' and this is where YOU come in...

We wholeheartedly believe in our story and need £15,000 to bring it to life. This is YOUR chance to make a difference and to join us as part of cinema. We can't do this without you.

Please help us realise this dream by pledging an amount on the right hand side. Even by simply telling your friends and family about us, you’d be helping us a great deal. The more people who know, the more we can promote the film and get it made and seen by people everywhere.

We welcome you to meet the rest of our lovely team (so far!) at www.leonoramoore.com/hearthedoors and don't forget to like our facebook page at www.facebook.com/hearthedoors.

Storyline

A young boy, Kitz, lives in an infinite mansion. With nothing but the sounds of ferocious gales and eery creatures threatening to break through from the outside, Kitz wanders the corridors, armed only with his stethoscope, which he places to the doors... and listens. What he hears are the whispers of the universe and glimpses of understandings.

But he has been warned by Grandpa, who lies in bed, deep down in the basement. Warned not to stray too far from the centre, to always respect the walls and their granted places within. Undeterred, Kitz draws what he hears, yearning for a greater truth and soon a pattern begins to form, for the doors hold a secret in their numbers:

1110010101010... 0110011010100... 0001011010000... 0000000010100...

His inquisitive nature proves too strong and leads him to explore much further than Grandpa would like, or perhaps could even conceive, towards 0000000000000... and soon, Kitz finds himself delving deeper and deeper; into the fabric of existence itself, the comprehension of what it is to be, and what it truly is to ‘know’.

Director's Vision

"Is it not beautiful enough to see that a garden is beautiful, without having to believe that there are fairies living at the bottom of it too?" - Douglas Adams

Twin themes of blind faith versus a yearning to explore are interwoven in the story as we consider universal fundamental questions close to our hearts; consciousness, existentialism, belief in a 'creator' and the mesmerizing beauty of a universe and existence that we, as 'living' conscious entities, will only ever be able to grasp at comprehending.

The film will be shot (almost entirely, but not quite!) in black and white, with intense lighting used to create an other-worldly atmosphere and to reflect the magnificent and unknown depths of space.

The soul of the story has common ground with science fiction films like ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, but its stylistic inspiration has been drawn from films such as ‘Eraserhead’, ‘Last Year at Marienbad’ and the dreamscapes of Ingmar Bergman films.

What will the budget cover?

  • Materials to build our corridor set.
  • Camera & Lighting equipment hire.
  • Costumes/Props.

Other Ways You Can Help

It isn't just monetary donations that will help. If you can think of any way in which you may be able to contribute or join in, please get in touch. For example, we're still on the lookout for a warehouse (to build the sets within, at least 25m x 30m) and lots of helping hands!

Principle photography will start in early April so throughout March we're going to be building our 'infinite set of corridors' and are on the lookout for anyone interested in construction or set design - we're going to need loads of hands on deck and there will be all sorts of jobs and challenges to get involved with, so whether you like painting, or carrying heavy stacks of wood (!!), there's a job for everyone!

Please drop us a line at hearthedoors@gmail.com if you'd like to hear more or get involved. We'd love to hear from you!

Thank you all so much!

Leo and Jonny

Trailer for Leonora’s debut directorial film ‘East’:

We would like to stress that this was shot on a budget of £0.00 and is also totally different stylistically to the film we are now planning. This was shot on Leo’s home camcorder, the Canon HV30, with a 35mm adapter attached. It was a piece that focused entirely on story and characters (I guess as all films should)... and it was awarded Best Feature Film at the UK Film Festival Dec 2011. http://ukfilmfestival.com/awards/

Risks and challenges

Since the entirety of our film will be shot indoors, there are no risks associated with changing weather or seasonal restrictions. Furthermore with no dangerous stunts there are few production risks associated with the shooting of this film.
