Canvas Watch Company was founded on the idea that designing a watch dial is more of an art than a science, but the craft of watchmaking takes years of experience to master. Our goal is to separate these two elements and let the community contribute and select the designs they want us to make while we focus on the craft of watchmaking. By producing each design in small batches of 250, we can give more people access to the wristwatch as medium to share their creativity.
The process to design, engineer, prototype, manufacture, and distribute a completely new watch takes roughly a year from start to finish. By using our case designs as a platform for unique dial designs, we can remove time consuming steps in the engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing stages, which allows us to get new designs to you faster than ever before.
That being said, we plan to dedicate the next year to focusing on quality and making sure the community is 100% happy with our watches before speeding up production. After this year we hope to go from design to customers hands in 3-4 weeks. For this campaign, we given ourselves a head start in manufacturing the components and expect to deliver the first batch within 6 weeks after the campaign is complete.
We have high aspirations for the future and this is only day 1. Help support this campaign by selecting one of our first two watches as a reward. Designed by Sean Franks and Simon Von Allmen, each dial has a very different style that reflects the personality and individuality of the designers.

While working at Tesla Motors, I gained first hand experience with the challenges of manufacturing a new and complex product. With this experience, I decided that a prototype watch would not be enough to guarantee the first batch would be completed in a timely manner. The watches in the photos above are pre-production samples that were assembled with components from the production suppliers using the tooling and processes to support the first orders and beyond. This strategy is more capital intensive before the campaign is funded, but I believe it's the right thing to do for our early supporters. - Shaun

Risks and challenges
Our first batch is sequentially numbered from 001 to 500. We will do our best to ship the watches in the order of the pledges, but there's no guarantee you'll get a certain number.
Knowing that unforeseen challenges are bound to come up, we have partnered with Wiegand Custom Watches near Cleveland, Ohio to start assembly. Launching the highly regarded brand Lum-tec in 2007, they have many years of experience in both custom watchmaking, as well as short-run production. Once production stabilizes, assembly will transition to our own facility in Metro-Detroit. It's a unique startup strategy, but it will ensure that our first watches are impeccable quality as we launch the company.
If for any reason we believe we won't hit our expected ship date, we will be as transparent as possible about the situation and we will post regular updates to our backers to let you know how things are progressing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The two missing watches will go to the designers, Sean and Simon, as our way of saying thank you.
Yes. All of our backers will receive a lifetime guarantee on their watches. As long as we're in business, we'll take care of the people that made it possible. We'll even replace the battery for free. That being said, the warranty will have to exclude the strap and buckle, as well as any clear physical damage. Also, there may be a shipping charge depending on the circumstances, especially for those of you outside the US.
