About this project
The world of
Crystal, the wind up Ballerina, lives in a shattered castle on top of a quilted hill. Every hour on the hour the bells inside the castle ring and Crystal comes out and dances in the center with a soldier on the other side. However, on this day, when the bells struck in the morning, Crystal came out and found her soldier missing. All she could find is a trail of oil leading away from the castle
Crystal soon sets off to find her soldier in a world populated by broken toys trying to piece their lives back together. Will she find her missing companion, or will she find herself lost with all the other damaged toys she meets on her journey?
Welcome to the world of Broken Down Ballerina, a bittersweet love story with handcrafted artwork illustrating a land made of forgotten relics and dreams. This story follows Crystal as she meets characters like the bear who lost his button eyes and Ami the doll with no body in amazing landscapes like the garden of Paper roses, the flatlands of tattered scarecrows, and game board valley.
Every Page of artwork in the book is created with handcrafted sculptures and set pieces. All the art is carefully made to capture the feel of the story and bring the reader into the world.
Broken Down Ballerina is a story I first thought up in 2001 as a Stop-Motion project that would be accompanied by a storybook. As time went on I continued going through the project adjusting the story and soon focused more on the book portion. My hope is that the book will lead to a stop motion film later on. The story has been one of my favorite projects to write and I’m happy to finally get the story on its way to completion. This book is a love story that follows Crystal (a character with a lot of heart) as she travels through a dark and decaying land to find the love of her life. The world is meant to be a purgatory for toys and lost items which are all trying to live on.
Helping this world come to life will earn you rewards such as an autographed hardcopy of the book, prints of artwork, and even pieces of the set from the artwork in the book. I’ll also sign and number the set pieces given. Figures of Crystal the ballerina will also be available to investors.
The higher we go the more I can do for this book! Along with that, there are unlockable rewards available for when we reach a certain amount.

Risks and challenges
The main risk is in not meeting the funds I'm looking to gain here on Kickstarter. I've been sculpting and building sets for years and I've sold work in artshows and to places around the world. I've also built sets for stage, stop motion, and much of my own personal work. Along with this I've gone through the method of having a book publish and know what paths I need to take. So once I have the funds I know I can create this book, I just need to get them. after that the main challenge is to market the book, and I believe this campaign will help greatly along with the blogs I've made and word of mouth from everyone who reads it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Some backers will have the first printed books delivered to them first. After that it will be made available on sites like Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and most places books are sold. If the book gets a high enough demand, companies will start to carry the book in-store.
