HOW WE GOT HERE:
In March (maybe April) of 2012 Cali Moore, Talia Thiesfield, and Olithea Anglin found themselves in a dance callback together for an Off-Broadway musical. Upon leaving the callback, they bonded while packing their bags and catching their breath and immediately became friends (well, okay...Olithea and Cali already knew each other, but you get the idea).
A few months, and several mutual audition experiences later, Talia brought to the girls' attention a unique idea: a cabaret-style show featuring the iconic R&B music made popular by girl groups of the 90's. Before Destiny's Child, The Spice Girls, and The Pussycat Dolls...there was En Vogue, TLC, SWV, and Xscape. You know the songs...the ones that come on the radio and make you go "Awwww sh*t! This was my JAM!"
They decided that they wanted to put on a show that made everybody want to wiggle & grind in their seats, pop their necks, and sing all off key like we all used to on the back of the bus.
MEET THE DIVAS:
Talia Thiesfield is a multi-culti soprano belter with super-secret rap flow. She's characterized by her huge eyes and wacky sense of humor...and hair. Lots of hair.
Cali Elizabeth Moore is a sultry high belter from Music City with a (surprisingly) extensive knowledge of 90's R&B music. This blonde beauty brings soul, positivity, and lipstick everywhere she goes.
Olithea Anglin is a funky fresh Queens native, who's dream as a little girl was to be a 90's superstar. She is characterized by her big smile and her alien-like ear for harmonies.
HELP A SISTA OUT:
So whoop, there it is! We proudly bring you...FUNKY DIVAS. But we need your help! Putting on a show ain't cheap, honey. We will be putting the show up this March 2013 in a venue in New York City (to be determined depending on funding). Your generous contributions will allow us to put on a professional, high-quality show complete with:
- Full Band (percussion, guitars, horns, and piano)
- Backup singers
- An amazing venue for us to pack!
- Fly 90's inspired wardrobe
- Rehearsal space
- Sheet music, programs & flyers
- And so much more!
So THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU in advance!!!! We can't do this without you, but we sure as heck are gonna do it FOR you! For the R&B lovers, for the neck poppers, for the dope shorties and the fly divas...we'll see you all this spring!
Olithea, Talia, and Cali
***Oh! And we want to send special high-fives, hugs, and shout outs to Matt Harrington (photographer) and Darren Whorton (viedographer) for lending us their time and impeccable talent. You guys are the bomb dot com!***
Risks and challenges
When putting on a show, a performer can sometimes be at the mercy of a particular venue's availability. We hope to have the show booked for March 2013, but we won't be able to book a venue until we receive funding. We have several venue options in mind, but should our preferred dates not be available we will take the next available date that works with everyone's schedules.
Also, a performer's life can take them anywhere and any point in time. There's a chance that one of the divas may book a show out of town that will bring lots of money or opportunity. We would never want to hold one of our fellow sisters back, so in the event one of us books a once-in-a-lifetime gig that conflicts with the show, we will immediately reschedule for the next available date that works with everyone's schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
