Happy Leaf Kombucha is Denver's first local Kombucha Brewery. Owned and operated by three friends, Happy Leaf puts an emphasis on creating innovative flavor combinations with the highest quality ingredients. This rapidly expanding brewery strives to always be producing the best, most unique product available.
We at Happy Leaf Kombucha thank you for watching our Kickstarter video, and hope that you will contribute to the future of our wonderful brewery and tap room!
Why a Kickstarter?
The simple answer is: because you love our Kombucha!
In less than a year of commercial brewing, the demand for our kombucha has grown Happy Leaf from its humble beginnings in Mike and Jenni's kitchen, to a shared commissary, to our own brewery.
In just the past month, we've added another space to become our tap room, built a bar with our bare hands, and just last Friday opened it up to serve our beverages on draft all week.
We've done all this through hard work, incredibly long hours, and with our own money.
However, the community's demand exceeds what we're able to fund entirely on our own. Brewing and distributing on this scale requires some expensive new equipment. Adding these pieces would allow us to focus on the creative process that goes into making the highest quality product on the market, and making our product much more accessible to you.
We make a wide variety of flavors based on what fruits and herbs are in season. Currently we bottle 2 flavors, Longevity (lemon, hibiscus, ginger) and Pura Vida (coconut, ginger, lime) but our draft product line is extensive and ever growing. Over this past summer, we created upwards of 25 different flavors, with some of the favorites including Strawberry Basil, Spiced Pear, Lavender Peach, Dry Hopped Prickly Pear, and Carrot Ginger. We look forward to experimenting with flavors and aim to have something new on tap each week.
Our Tap Room
Building our tap room has been a true labor of love. We converted a former photography studio into a kombucha tap room, the first of its kind in Colorado and one of only a few in the United States.
...So, let's get down to the nitty gritty:
What, specifically, will the Kickstarter fund?
A Compressor for the Walk-In Refrigerator $2,000
We've already built the refrigerator, now we just need to get it nice and icy cold! Getting the walk-in up and running allows us to increase our production output dramatically. It also ensures that your glass of kombucha is the perfect temperature when you're hanging out at the tap room!
Draft Systems & Equipment $2,000
Buying more kegerators and the gear to run them means your local corner store can carry Happy Leaf Kombucha on tap. You can fill up your bottle with ice cold kombucha after a good sweat at your fitness center or yoga studio. It means you can walk down the street to the local coffee shop, and get a glass of Happy Leaf to go with your breakfast. We can put Happy Leaf right on your block!
15 Kegs $1,500
More kegs allows Happy Leaf to be on tap in more places. Simple enough, right? We want to bring you the freshest, tastiest kombucha around-- and kegs are how we do it.
Tap Room Furniture $500
We've secured some furniture for our tap room, but additional seats and tables will create a more comfortable environment for all our kombucha fans.
What if we go over our goal?
Anything above and beyond will be put to good use! Here are some of the immediate ways in which we can utilize additional funds:
If we reach this plateau, we'll be able to buy the equipment needed to get bottles of Happy Leaf into 6 new stores, as well as draft systems for 2 new locations.
Along with the previous additions, reaching the $15,000 level would allow us to buy enough equipment to supply 10 new draft locations!
Meeting this goal, we would further expand to 15 new stores. Moreover, we would be able to expand our tap room and furnish it with cool, locally made, couches, tables, and chairs.
We hope you're as ambitious as we are! Hitting this plateau gives us the ability to open a bunch of new draft accounts, with a local focus. Additionally, we'd open a great new space— a place with a big outdoor area and a Kombucha-Meets-Beer-Garden atmosphere. That would be a pretty awesome spot to hang, let's make it happen!
Risks and challenges
There are always challenges inherent to crafting anything with fresh, seasonal ingredients. However, we are confident that our creativity and inventive palates will keep us on the forefront of flavor innovation, and this ingenuity allows us to always have something interesting and new, no matter what ingredients become available to us.
We’ve got our brewing process down, so the main hurdle now is simply procuring the equipment and expanding our facilities to match our production quantity with the demand that we’ve seen over our first year. Access to our product is our main concern; we want you to be able to buy Happy Leaf Kombucha right in your neighborhood.
From the owners, Mike, Jenni, and Trot, we cannot express enough gratitude for the support and encouragement you have shown us over such a short amount of time brewing commercially. We always knew how much we enjoyed our kombucha, and it’s been amazing to see how many people feel the same.
We take huge pride in hand crafting the best product we can, so we thank you for taking a look at our Kickstarter— and we hope you are as enthusiastic about this next phase for Happy Leaf as we are!
